@massimo said: Hi Tommaso and welcome. Please don't post external links to your images. I'm not on Facebook for example so I can't see them. Just use the "upload attachment feature" you'll find at the bottom of the post panel. You can upload your work in the gallery section of the forum. You can choose the WIP subforum for your work in progress jobs. Thanks, I just added some pics in the Gallery section so that you can see them I hope. Thanks again for your support and lol fot this forum!! Tommaso

I think, however, that even with the default fov 35, the problem is the same

@valerostudio said: If you do a search in these forums, you will see the the Arrowway maps question has been discussed. Especially pertaining to the reflection / glossiness maps. Those freebies though are insanely low res and I wouldn't expect amazing results from them. I think you can buy some of the maps individually. The pay ones are very hi res and work well with VRay. You may have to downsize them though because they may be too large for SketchUp to handle. I think some of them get as large as like 12,000 pixels wide or something insane like that. One more note. If you search for Jason Maranto, he is a Sketchucation user that has made SKM libraries of all of the Arroway free files. The libraries he made link direct to Maxwell, but you can still use the SKM libraries without Maxwell and the hi-res versions. Thanks! One thing i have been missing withe my version of vray was the materials that are supposed to ship with it... I did not realize that and have been trying to create or find materials elsewhere or create them from scratch, which has been time consuming. I realized that they had sent me an link to download the library when i first signed up but when I had clicked on it I got a forbidden error 404 so i did not download it at that time then I forgot all about it. I have sent a request to Vray for assistance downloading the vray library. I am assuming it is a pretty good place to start with some nice materials as well and all i have to do in import them!

First thing I would check is textures. Make sure you don't have any funky image files from any warehouse objects for example. I've sometimes run into images that are cmyk jpeg files instead of RGB for example. Have you tried doing a render with global material override. That way you can check if any of the materials are causing problems. (You can override some materials and have those render, that way you can check specific materials.) There's any other number of problems that can crop up. Another trouble-shooting option is to load default options settings to make sure something in your options isn't messed up. If you are using DR, there are all kinds of instability there that could be an issue. Any more specifics you can share on your settings? One last thing: do you have more than one window of SU open when you are rendering? That can cause all kinds of issues too. I never have two windows of SU open with vray running.

you got an old version update to lastest and then leave the opacity 100% and tick "use color texture for transparency" in the diffuse slot, that's it. for proper shadow apply the png on both positive and negative faces.

I stand corrected. Interesting. Has anyone tried either of these?

Ok let’s start with the native SU before we get onto the VRay. Couple of things: You need to pay attention to the front and back faces. (front – white , back – blue). VRay materials should only go on the front faces. The front faces are for external surfaces so with a brick wall for example, the outside (the bit you see) should be white and the internal (the bit you don’t) should be blue. http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115427 Your model needs to be all white inside the church. The attached file (stage feb 24 edit Monochrome.jpg) shows what faces need to be changed. [image: F1Rt_stagefeb24editMonochrome.jpg] You need to keep up with purging the unused materials, components and styles. I ran a purge and the attached file (Purge.jpg) shows how much unused stuff was in it. The files is greatly affected, the file you sent was 20mb and the purged file is 4mb. [image: ZRK2_Purge.jpg] On to the projectors screens: The reason they weren’t working is because they had been applied to ‘back faces’. I have attached some file that should help explain it. This image show that on is not working but the other is. (Screen 1.jpg), the corresponding SU export shows the one not working is applied to a blue face. (Monochrome 1.jpg) [image: 0cVv_Screen1.jpg] [image: BXJb_monochrome1.jpg] As you can see in (screens.jpg) they are both working and the SU export shows that they are both front faces (monochrome 2.jpg) [image: yzFH_Screens.jpg] [image: yLcI_monochrome2.jpg] I have attached the reduced file as well as the packed material. Hope that helps. TRJ - stage feb 24 edit.zip TRJ - TV screen.zip

I bet you could achieve this effect by rendering a small portion of the modeled material and take than alpha mask and use that as a glossiness map in refraction? Quite the challenge.

Well I'm not really sure on a Vray setting side, but in Photography the way to fix that would be by doing 2 or more exposures, one for proper interior lighting and one for proper exposure of the window and then combine them in photoshop or other HDR program.

Thanks for the tips guys. I couldn't (and can't) post an image of the final result, since there's some secretkeeping of the design involved for now. Perhaps in a few months. Anyway, the biggest problem in this story was mainly the guy who commissioned it didn't quite know what he wanted and inadvertently took it out on me, telling me every time I had rendered something, that it looked wrong. Finally we settled for using a really plain, modelled plank, just plain colour and a simple groove. Thanks for the link Valerostudio, to that arroway thingy. I'm sure it will be useful in a later project I knew the site of course, but I just found out this time around that they have downloadable samples. Quite a handy thing, especially with the people I work with... always changing their minds... As to the creating of bump maps etcetera; I'm quite adept at that already, but it's a nice video to watch nonetheless. Always a pleasure to see someone working at something they're good at.

Hello thanks for responding. I didn't have the time to work it out so I used ies lighting instead.

A cheat if you just need color is to put the color directly on the refraction. you won't get the SSS effect but on box this may not matter much.
