Hi, I only speak Spanish. I have a similar problem with "BugSplat" and I have a response to a possible conflict. I deactivated the box "USE HARDWARE ACCELERATION" The "BugSplat" disappeared. the problem may be in the Hardware or drivers. If someone helped this track, just ask.

one quick troubleshooting advice: are you running more than one window of Sketchup? There are some bugs that occur if you have more than one instance of vray running at the same time. Try using only one window of SU and see if the problem goes away.

i find that it's a lot cleaner create a new material, load that texture and properly map it on the geometry rather than import an image and place it onto geometry from file/import etc. create a regular material and always check if it's applyed on the front face.. maybe this will help vray to avoid this strange behaviour.. also, if you need to scale/place the texture in a more effective way than the native "texture position" tool, i suggest to give a look at thrupaint by fredo6, thomthom uv toolkit may be helpful too, as it provides a tool to fit texture to quad faces etc..

This happens to me occasionally when I have changed the colour/transparency of a vismat material and/or I have an imported model with an unrecognised texture. In the first case, I tend to save what I am working on and exit, when I restart it all worls fine. In the latter case, if you are using an imported model, it may be worth removing the textures from this model and re-applying them with either native or vismats. Hope this helps

oh, a bump map... In effect I didn't even think to use it because I tought it was for soft effect... like (for example) orange peel. Ok, I'll try. Or will use a vertical plane to end the edge. Thanks

@bstjames00 said: Thanks for the help I will try that, but just a note the wall finish is not reflective at all, does that make a difference? Then I would guess it's most likely your light source. Change the shadow subdivisions from (default) 8 to 16 and see if it makes a difference. If you keep increasing the number, but it's still a problem, then try increasing your AA settings.

maybe also more than 30-40 as far as i can see the proper value changes at each renders depending of the lighting conditions.. i suspect that in your case you should raise it a lot because you have a lot of splotches.. keep testing and read soemething about the vray engine.. the link posted by valero is a very good start, look further in that site, it refers to vray for 3dsmax but it works quite the same in vray for sketchup..

.mtl will not work with this V-Ray. That's a Max format, which I am sure this model was meant for. Now with that said, I have to say that this is the limitation you will hit every time with SketchUp. It just cant handle geometry like this. Try to import the same file in Max and see how it handles. It's just night and day. SketchUp was never meant to be this kind of program. Some rendering engines allow for proxies which puts a low poly placeholder in SketchUp and then renders out the hi-poly version. V-Ray currently does not have this capability but it is in the works for their next release.

I think using layer is a buggy with Vray because when i deleted all the layer I have, I can now render my model. Layer has another issue with scenes and Vray. If i turned off a layer on another scene then on the product image the supposed to be turned on layer disappear. I hope chaos group now working on this bugs, and I think what causes much delayed on their product update is because theyre waiting for another sketchup product which fixes especially in counting polygon.

@valerostudio said: First off, welcome, if you truly want to learn how to make renderings like this then you will need 2 things. Time Patience Here is a starting point to answer your questions specifically. The leaves and plants are no way SketchUp. These are most likely hi poly models purchased on the web and rendered in Max. The wood floor is probably something where the boards were modeling in 3D and a hi res texture was used to map the wood texture. The concrete looks like an Arrowway texture. http://www.arroway-textures.com/ Now these answers really only tell about less than 1/2% of the information you need to make images like this. The first image you posted probably was modeled in 3D Studio Max or SketchUp possibly and then imported in Max, materials and textures were probably custom from Photoshop and then VRay materials made one by one, then the lighting and rendering probably took 1/2 day to setup. Then I am sure there was a lot of post process in Photoshop. I started as an architecture student and when I graduated I decided to focus solely on viz. I have been using VRay for 5 years and I am still learning. If this is truly what you want to do, then you need to make that choice now and start the focus. I think there are few licensed architects practicing architecture and making renderings like this. I may be wrong but I just think as much time needs to go into learning all the tools and concepts to make a rendering as you would need to invest in becoming a licensed architect and there are only so many hours in the day. There are plenty of resources online to learn VRay and post work. Evermotion has a great 2-part video series on SketchUp and VRay. I would start there. Thank you, helped me a lot. First you need to see how it's done only then you can start learning the right way. Have a nice day!

One thing for sure I could tell: without Max version (eating +- 15gb) I simply would be fired (though file exporting itself is a tedious job)

Yes, I'm trying to render a scene with an HDRI background and I want the objects to cast shadows. How do I get that to work?
