You have to make sure Force 1 sided is checked and set the color to a light/med gray.

valerostudio - nah, just pump out some nice renders and shout about us from a mountaintop. panixia - we haven't added support for layer or texture animation yet, no. thomthom - I have a feeling that video was released by accident, or for a specific purpose. Not for announcing the new version.

@panixia said: @bocomofo said: have you checked the use 'colour texture as transparency' in the diffuse rollout. he did it for sure, elsewhere transparency would have not worked in the diffuse I would rather check if the material was properly applied to the backface, cause that can lead some problem. i suggest check if the material is applied on the front face (turn on monocrhome mode and check) and then use "frontface material to backface" from thomthom's UV Toolkit That sounds like the right answer. I did some quick tests - and if you have a different material on the backface, the shadow will be a half-tone of the transparency of the front and the opacity of the back.

Both of the developers for our plugin were helping you actually. Both Joe and Myself. The entire issue was caused by us being unable to write our error log out to the folder where we normally put it. So we just changed the path to your user folder and it started working just fine. As a quick heads up, and to save you any additional frustration, our manual is a tad outdated (it's about 3 versions old). So the manual will give you a good idea of where to get started, but you should also have a look at our youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE2F8B612F375E98E

if you glass material is less than 100% transparent, that may cause it to look foggy. Can you share your material settings (you can save out a "vismat" file from your material editor.) Edit: you're right panixia, I meant vismat!

That was the problem! You absolutely can critique and I appreciate the advice! Would DR also be the problem with the attached file. My walls have big rectangles of wrong colors at the sides of the opening. [image: 9C6Q_cc.0006-3.png]

@panixia said: @andybot said: RT generally works instantly on the lighting/ camera position/ material definitions. The mesh has to be exported again if you make geometry changes to objects in the scene ..... However, I think a CUDA card will be on my xmas list. have a quick look to the whole scene and lighting is still "magic", considering i spend the most time in setting to properly place the camera, adjust sun/lights etc.. and i just got a cuda card so.. can't wait! but, if one can't see the proxy group in the viewport or move it in rt preview, how the placement/snapping of this object will be fine-tuned? I don't know how exactly RT works, I'm just saying the update might take longer than just simply pressing the button and going. Proxies are definitely visible in the RT viewer, I just have no idea how responsive or not it will be. @Devin Too bad about the lack of GPU rendering for RT. But knowing that DR will work is good news. @Pete: thanks for the recommendation

Select the channels you want in the options Render to File - make sure to use EXR and not VRIMG Make sure you have EXR PRO Tools installed in Photoshop (MUST HAVE 64 bit from what I understand. I am using CS5 and it works fine.) Open the EXR file and all of your channels come in as layers. [image: BN6a_Test.JPG]

But in terms of the model I posted, the texture has black and white lines - the most extreme color values you can get. You'd think that was enough contrast for the threshold to trigger higher samples?

@thomthom said: But I haven't been rendering with Alpha. It's been all without. I had a chance to look at it some more. You're right, alpha was not on - but it still rendered areas without geometry as black. I tried the "z-depth catcher" plane - and it does work in making the background white. I did a quick check- and if the plane is beyond the rear clipping distance, it still shows up as white, so I assume that anything that's clipped by vray is drawn as white, but anything transparent is shown as black. I agree that it's really not an optimal situation. It should clip the foreground to black, the background to white, and draw transparency as white (to assume that you are looking at the back distance...)
