BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

For your groove, try this. The Follow Me tool looks like Push/Pull but it isn't. That's a new 'feature' in SU8.

Your model lies quite far from the SU model origin point (more than 2 kilometers). As it is, a scaled export from a plan view worked OK, but the unscaled perspective view didn't. When I moved the model to the origin it worked OK. Anssi

Interesting, Bruce. I have not experience any issues with my XP but indeed have read a couple of complaints that people cannot access the warehouse. I have not been able to find a pattern though (like Windows and/or SU versions in pair)

Yes, and here is another one (of mine): http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=ab19f7632ea76be72e663865c4731bb5 You can set who can download it under the access tab. See screenshots below (I even highlighted an "apology" for not allowing access - it's not only my decision but also the archaeologist's who excavated the stuff) [image: tdm5_MyBasilica.png] Click on the image to see the settings at the bottom [image: wnfn_acces.png]

You just need to snap onto the back face - if you know its exactly 2" you can also type 2" and press enter and it should punch the hole. If you haven't make the 'box' you are punching through with perfectly parallel faces you won't get the hole to punch this way at all. If that is the case either make sure both faces are parallel OR pushpull a considerable distance through the back face, then select the edges of the pulled shape and 'intersect with model' to cut the back-face, then erase the unwanted bits and you will have a punched hole - not recommended for minor inaccuracies - fix the cause! BUT the method is useful if you have an intentionallywedge shaped wall that you want to punch a hole through...[image: efYd_Capture.PNG]

You have some very small skinny 'shard' faces in there that are causing SU to generate incorrect surface normals, hence the different shading using Sun. These typically get created when performing booleans and such. Also look for t-junctions that will cause cracking. Adam

@gaieus said: Hi Lee, Have you tried to export from LayOut then? It has some different exporting algorithm as far as I know and you could be more lucky with that. Vector and hybrid rendering modes export edges as vectors. Pure vector from LO would be the same as PDF from SU. Hybrid from LO may be faster since it doesn't have to create vector faces.

Check out the key caps you have in the fonts you are using or possibly change fonts such you can find a symbol you want. You can use that to add symbols but not the exact one you have in the OP unless you want to make a special font. Look under start, programs, accessories, system tools and character map. For your fonts it will show the code to type for the selected symbol. Examplt http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2d79c340445bb6b89f30f02514717f00

If you want to have the shiny things (and all real time photorealistic effects) insideSU actively, have a look at LightUp. Once you set up your materials and run the renderer ("Tour mode"), you are INSketchUp with all the effects and can walk around, export images/videos etc.

Look at this short tutorial on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzbk8kYSmfE This shows how to snap an object from one point to another point on a different object, without dragging the object to the point. They indicate that you need to hit the arrow key a second time to make it snap, at least on a mac you then need to left click the mouse. This works great when you are moving the piece on multiple axes. I have not seen this referenced anywhere else, but I probably just missed it. Dan

Scratch that! http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=visa+lighting&styp=c&btnG=Search&reps=1 Whats cool is that you can download the light into your model, and then in the component info box, there is a link to the IES profile, which you can download as well, and then plug into your favorite render software! Good find!

Hi ThomThom, Thanks for this cooool plug. The one I need is simplest, but I will deduce a smaller one from yours. Thanks for your help, and overall all those nice tools you've made.

Also make sure it is saved as an RGB channel image. SU on Windows have had problems with other kind of images.

Hi, As for the "native" SU tools you could try the "wrapping" method - http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=21762&start=15 Or you might want to consider Whaat´s UV Tools http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=23725&hilit=UVTools

@dragoonprogramming said: its too complicated a model to do with out perfect plans, sorry.... C´mon, don´t get so discouraged! Perfect plans are hard to find, but they are not enough anyway - as it was mentioned before, it all depends on LOD you are going to put into it. If it is going to be a highly detailed model, you´ll probably need lots of reference images as well. @dragoonprogramming said: I need some thing that is a lttle less complicated maybe a little smaller? Now what´s the challenge in that? EDIT: However, take a look at the http://www.collectibleblueprints.com/Index.html - you might get some ideas and inspiration. Good luck!
