    • Urgent question about omni's in a restaurant

      hey guys,

I'm a relatively experienced vray user, but I am trying to render an interior of a restaurant and having to use a lot of different lights. I have exposed lightbulbs and i'm using emmissive light in the coil inside the bulb to give it a nice glowing effect. This works fine for 30 bulbs.

I then tried adding an omni light to each of these bulbs so that the bulbs are actually producing light, but after 3 hours, vray is still in the calculating phase... So something is badly wrong. I did increase the subdivisions to 20 and I have multiple reflective materials (most are actually) I'm guessing it's that? Is there any way to fix it?

I'm wondering, what are your workflows when having loads of artificial lights in a scene? My scene also has a glass entrance so natural light is coming in, but I want to simulate a real restaurant atmosphere (natural + loads of artificial light)?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

      p.s I'm using vray 1.49.01 and sketchup 8.0.4811

    • Texturing complicated models.

      Hey guys!
I've been trying to do some renders with vray and finding it increasingly frustrating when texturing some things.

For example, plants.... How do you pros texture plants? the leaves, petals, everything? Do you only use projected textures? I have done this but when the leaf bends more than 90 degrees, the projected texture looks very stretched and wrong right after the bend. Am i missing something very obvious in the projected technique?

I also am aware of blender and other external texture apps but i'd much prefer to keep learning sketchup's native tools.

thanks for all the responses in advance guys πŸ˜„

Is there a way to get part of the stripes into the right direction, in line with drape?

Did anyone ever find out how to do this?

    • RE: Method for realistic towel and bathrobe, any ideas?

I'd be interested in this too, what would an experienced sketchup user do/what would a good approach be if he wanted to model a detailed bathrobe that was hanging from a hook?

    • Sketchucation since updates to website...

      hello there,
A few weeks ago i bookmarked a few tutorials on this website and since the newest changes to the website they've disappeared and aren't there anymore. I was mostly interested in the "Creating a Swaying Curtain in Google SketchUp – SketchUcation" tutorial, i looked for it everywhere but its only on this website (well... was)

any idea when this will be back up? if ever?

      thanks
