BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@blazin8s said: How many cores do most of the Rendering Plugins cap out at? Not sure if they impose any limit. I'd be surprised if they did. @blazin8s said: Also, does Video Card affect rendering speed at all? Depends on the render engine - some support rendering with GPU - some doesn't.

@earthmover said: I was still having major issues with grayed out menus even with the latest update. What fixed it for me was removing all of the CadFather toolbars. i.e. Archiland, SCF Power Bar, etc. It appears there was a conflict somewhere in those. I just use the plugins I need from them separately. Haven't had a single gray out since I removed them. Figured I'd mention it in case it helps someone else having a similar issue. It's probably that removing those you came under the limit - not that any of them individually caused problems or conflicted with each other. SketchUp has a limit to how many UI::Command objects it can address.

a Xeon doesn't help much (SU is not aware of), 8 kernels don't help much (SU is single threaded), a Quadro FX doesn't help much (SU uses OGL v1.5), 16GB RAM doesn't help much (SU is 32bit)... simply because SU is not taking advantage of it. the fastest i7 (in the sense of clock frequency) and a mid-range GeForce delivers the best bang for the buck, nothing else. If you use Windows > Model Info > Fix Problems you'll get the results from the previous posts. When things splat there's normally a good reason for it. Your mesh is not a mesh that can Subdivide. Turn on hidden geometry. Look at the number of edges around the perimeter. If you select all the geometry look in the entity info box. There's 1221 entities which the majority are at the boundary. When you subdivide you're dividing each triangle that are very close together. It won't work. You need a simpler shape that needs less think time. Large areas of your mesh triangles meet at one point which makes the subdivision very difficult. You should watch Dale's Panton Chair tutorial on YouTube. It's shows how to start with proxy model in 2D and progress to 3D. Very educational use of SDS. Holla back if you get stuck.

There's no access to many aspects of 'materials' through the API or DCs. So 'projected' is not one of them... You do not need to project the texture on the cone. Indeed, you need to apply it as desired onto one face and then repeat the mapping around the remaining facets. As Gai says once made the material should 'scale' with the object... How would you 'normally' apply a material to any part of a DC ? Wouldn't you have it pre-applied to a cone which is then shown or not ? You can't apply/map a material in a DC [at least not without some arcane/convoluted new 'functions' being added to the DC, via Ruby and not native DC coding - which then means DC users need the .rb loaded too]...

. ..and also, attach the .skp to your post if you don't mind.. depending on your desired results, you may need a plugin to make this a lot easier than using followme.

@arcad-uk said: Csaba, good tip, but I regularly hit "Delete Guides" to quickly clean up my drawing, can you stop the marks being deleted? Unfortunately, no. Even when you put them into locked groups, they are deleted. You can copy and "paste in place" your needed guides into an empty file though and when done with all the modelling, do the same to get them back.

If you mean UV[re]mapping of textured materials, then there are several scripts to do this... Search the 'Plugins Index'...

@bkjernisted said: Is it possible to collapse vertices or points in Sketchup as you can in Cinema4d. Merge all selected vertices to a point? I added such a feature to Vertex Tools 1.1 which I will release soon. It also has a function to merge vertices within a given proximity of each other.

Rhots: There are some concepts which may help to understand what is happening: What is printed is the screen image and not the model. The display nor your printer under stand model size. They work strictly in pixes / dots per inch; For the fit to page print what you see for page size is not the model but the screen size SU has calculated based on its knowledge of the model ize and the pixels size of your screen settings; SU then uses that information and the printer settings to determine the scaling it must a apply to print the screen to your specified paper size and thus the scaling you see in the left scaling box. BTW I would suggest you toogle the use screen extents several times until the the page size report is consistent. ( I think there is a bug here because this and the zoom extents in the SU window give different results. ) In addition related to your comment about dimensions disappearing check what you have set in the expert dimension dialog box. There is an option of not printing when they get too small. I would suggest you make a simple rectangle model with an aspect ratio consistent with you screen (2d) and then make its size very close to the paper size and check out what is happening including change of print format. Just some thoughts based on what I think I know

IIRC, there is something along those lines among the "Solid" tools of SU 8 Pro, too.

Great idea to break it by rooms. I didn't think of that. FYI, as 3D printing is getting larger, it would be great to have a plug-in that allows you to bind the model as a complete unit, then chop it up however you want. Just a thought. Thanks for your help.
