Printing problems
-
Hi, to start I am using sketchup (non pro) version 8.01 on windows 7.
I have read a lot of forums on this first but not much help. When trying to print to fill the page, don't care about scale, if I change my settings to anything even close to what might fit the page it automatically splits it into multiple pages. One suggestion was to resize the graphics window.Below is a quote from one of the forums.How do I do what he is suggesting? I really should not complain about something so amazing as sketchup when it is FREE! But not being able to print properly and easily is very frustrating. Too used to Acad I guess."What it tries to plot is the whole of your SU window so you need to drag the borders of the frame until the graphics window is the same aspect ratio as your paper. Then Print Preview dialog should show the paper size corresponding to what you have managed to achieve' Also, "Use Model Extents" actually gives you model extents plus a bit, so it's best not to use that if you are concerned about correct scale."
Thanks for your time,

I am guessing you want to print to maybe jpg.
File>Export>2Dgraphic>(name it). Look at options button at bottom right. This opens a window with further parameters. Check box print model view. When you wish to print, you can select printer settings for available sizes of paper.
See if this is what you need. I am not sure. -
Thanks for the reply. Actually, although that seemed to work nicely, I just want to print to the printer with the model filling the page as close as possible. When getting the setting anywhere close to filling the page, it splits it into 2 pages even though it would obviously fit on one page.
The thing that bothers me the most is if I change the scale, the paper size changes. If I change the paper size, the scale changes! If I could swear here I would!!
Vent, vent , vent whew!Plus, I would still like to know how to change the size of the graphics window.

Set up a scene. Zoom, navigate to the angle and proximity you like. Then, window>scenes>give it a name, or scene1. Export to jpg as before, click on options as before... and so on. Maybe I don't understand the two page problem. Maybe you need to set the page size and minimal margins. That would be in a windows printing interface, or the printer interface.

you stated you do not care about scale so why not use the fit to page option??

Sorry, been away. Fit to page does NOT fit to page. That is the issue. When changing the scale to TRY to fit the page it split into two pages.
Exporting to jpg works well. But that is not the problem. It's a good work around though.

Set up your printer dialog exactly as mine [see earlier screenshot].
Ensure 'properties' landscape/portrait is set appropriately for the scene...
Does it still not print on one page ?
Mine is fine.
I still suspect that you have one option set wrong like having 'model-extents' ticked...
If it fails post a screenshot of your dialog so we can try your settings... -
Thanks for sticking with me TIG. I have 2 screen shots, I think I have to do 2 replies, one for each attachment. here goes, looks like it took both. notice all the border around the model.
Thanks again,

Rhots:
There are some concepts which may help to understand what is happening:- What is printed is the screen image and not the model. The display nor your printer under stand model size. They work strictly in pixes / dots per inch;
- For the fit to page print what you see for page size is not the model but the screen size SU has calculated based on its knowledge of the model ize and the pixels size of your screen settings;
- SU then uses that information and the printer settings to determine the scaling it must a apply to print the screen to your specified paper size and thus the scaling you see in the left scaling box.
BTW I would suggest you toogle the use screen extents several times until the the page size report is consistent. ( I think there is a bug here because this and the zoom extents in the SU window give different results. )
In addition related to your comment about dimensions disappearing check what you have set in the expert dimension dialog box. There is an option of not printing when they get too small.
I would suggest you make a simple rectangle model with an aspect ratio consistent with you screen (2d) and then make its size very close to the paper size and check out what is happening including change of print format.
Just some thoughts based on what I think I know
