    BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

    Not sure if this id relevant. But i was having the same issue, and kept getting "Invalid File" a later noticed i had the file i was trying to import referenced onto my cad file, in other words i was beings used elsewhere. Once i close the Cad file it allowed me to import the image without any issues.

    Your beam does not need to be so poly-heavy! You can achieve details like that in a render using a mix of normal/bump and displacement maps, with only enough geometry detail to define the silhouette. It doesn't matter so much for this model, maybe, but if you created an entire scene like this, I'd not be surprised if your computer gave up the ghost.

    Just a thought, but do you have any abnormally large textures that could be causing issues? Otherwise, I'd say delete things until the weirdness stops (in a backup obviously), add things back in until it starts, and try to diagnose it that way. As for why it's fine in a new model, I'd say perhaps the issue is within a group/component and doesn't kick off until it's accessed?

    Have you tried to split your DWG to few smaller drawings and import them one after another to SU with 'Preserve drawing origin' ticked? File -> Import -> Options

    As driven has said, unticking export two sided faces should handled this situation. So i did some more tests and i have found out that my problem is my sketchup, or version of sketchup. I'm using the 2014 version and no matter what i do it messes up my export file. I installed the 2105 and it works perfectly. I don't have a clue on why this happens, but at least i have found a way to solve my problem. Thank you so much for your fast replies! It helped me alot.

    In 2015, save as 2013 then collada export! Else 2015 export Collada inside MeshLab works fine for me!

    iMac related question. Are you running the i5 version or did you upgrade to the i7? In the process of buying a iMac and wondering if the new i7 upgrade is necessary.

    I've used the tool with a preselection of one group with many subgroups, you too? The tool have many different options, I would suggest to watch Fredos video to see the different possibilities...

Now I can finally make a mess again with no much effort.

    Nothing specific. As I've never run any AMD cards w SU, I just wanted to make sure there are not any GFXCard issues. Thx for your input.
