Changes coming to SketchUp 8 and SketchUp 2013
-
Changes that will be affecting SketchUp 2013 and SketchUp 8....it seems they are encouraging everyone to start using SketchUp 2015. Also You won't be able to access 3D Warehouse or Add Location and more...

In my view, they are not encouraging.
They are forcing. If you want to have SU2015 first you have to abandon Windows XP.
And even if that is an encouragement - it doesn't count much if you are short on money.

This is a Trimble requirement since they took over. It seems that SketchUp are migrating their web-based features & technologies off of Google’s systems and onto the new Trimble systems.
-
It's not exactly a Trimble requirement. SketchUp has already migrated its services to sketchup.com. The only problem is they cannot undo history, and older versions (≤2013) have all the time since their release been pointing to service addresses at the Google domain. It's Google that stops redirecting these services.
It's actually remarkable how deeply the SketchUp team cares about it, you have no less than 4 choices: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000177
Probably this solution hasn't been emphasised enough, but if you really don't consider upgrading, instead of moaning you could take your hands and solve the problems: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000180

I would also encourage you to get the latest version. It is a rewarding upgrade for the upgrade money and specially for Pro users.
Now if you are using as an hobbyist I agree it might not be worth upgrading to the pro version. But for hobbyists SU keeps being free software up to 2015... so no worries then.
The only fact that does matter is the upgrade from SU 8 free or pro to SU 201# is mandatory if you're using SU professionally. Even so as Aerillius pointed out, you can keep using 8 and they do help you keep using it.
I guess other software companies would push you a bit harder huh?

It's not a big deal. Apple nuke legacy support quite often.
Microsoft are ditching XP and Vista.
Sign of the times.
V2015 is the best version to run IMO. Still slightly behind the pack in terms of horsepower but a comfortable ride nonetheless.

the good news for Apple support is it's now n-2, i.e. two previous versions...
it was n-1, so legacy support is now twice as good...
how old is xp in terms of newer versions, n-? [genuine question]That fact that Google are dropping there internet 'support' for a product they sold to Trimble is not surprising...
That Trimble is offering advise on how to counter this is exceptional...

XP became Vista which then became Win7 and now Win8.
Which of you follow the sensible naming convention you can clearly see that Win10 is next.
