Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Well, sometimes things can solve themselves.... Last night my laptop did a major Windows update, and lo and behold today I have been working with sketchup and it's running just fine. Even rendering works without glitches and bugsplash. Sorry to bother in this matter. Laptop is a Lenovo G50, came with a 1 TB HDD, 16 GB ram, I7 dual core 3.5Ghz processor

@ddk said: trying to figure out how to add this rb file, its not showing up in the install list but is in my downloads .... I don't know code so im not changing it.. can anyone help with newb terms? :? there is no 'auto-instal' for any .rb files, only .rbz... notice the 'z', it's stands for 'zipped', so if you 'zip' any .rb then rename it's extension from .zip to .rbz, it will appear in the add extension list... john

Normally SketchUp shades surfaces as if the light source is at the camera. It does not cause shadows to be cast, regardless of settings. The "use sun for shading" instead shades surfaces as if the only light source is at the sun position. When shadows are displayed, this can produce a more realistic look because you don't have shading from one light source and shadows from a different one.

Unless you embrace open source tools. I'm already looking into it. New systems only get adopted if the client base accepts it (or has no alternative, as you already indicated); if it's rejected strongly enough, the new system will not survive.

@davidmreinbold said: Sketchup compatibilty is top priority for me as this is the software that I am earning my living with. adhering to the system requirements seems to have the highest priority then... @davidmreinbold said: Call me old fashioned but I just don't like the idea of having to ... re-learn the operating system... which would be required switching to a Linux distribution... @davidmreinbold said: I am not to keen on the every worsening hidden privacy issues and unwanted data collection side of things either. you can just disable them... and there are already free tools for doing this in one central place. in short, sticking with W7 until end of life (beginning of 2020) is the choice of pragmatism.

I tried to import your DWG using the Options > Units of Meters... It imports. There are issues. because the 9 groups that are created have their origins miles away from their geometry, so the appearance is weird and any orbiting etc is awful - jittery. You have two choices. Either make each group in turn into a component using the context-menu, then immediately change its axes to a sensible corner on its geometry [context-menu again]. After doing all 9 it'll be fine. Or select the 9 groups and use 'Explode' [context-menu again] so their geometry is merged into one context, and their badly located origins are forgotten... Another possibility would be to remake the forms entirely in SketchUp - its some simple 3d geometry for one [pushpull/offset/move] and an array-copy to make the 9... No problem, if you figure it out bring the solution around. This kind of stuff happens in LO to me too, but I've always figured a workaround before...

@sketch3d.de said: @juju said: If you bought SU Pro 2015 before 30/07/2015 you could have had it as the old price, new price is quite a bit higher (US $700 now). owning a SU v8 Pro license already an upgrade (plus reinstatement fee) is sufficent, no need to buy a new full license. @krisidious said: @unknownuser said: *Please note, there's a $60 Enrollment fee if upgrading a SketchUp Pro 8 or older license, or if your Maintenance and Support has lapsed more than 30 days. If I skip upgrading between versions and upgrade to 2015 instead, will I have to purchase a brand new, full price license? No. If you skip upgrading for one year, you would pay an upgrade cost of $120 for single-user license or $200 per seat for network license, plus a enrollment fee of $60. The total cost will be $180 and $260 respectively if upgrading after skipping the upgrade for one year or more. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000020 aaah, great, thanks for clearing that up

Weird. Maybe a repair installation of SU2015? New computers can come with out of date drivers so it might be worth checking for new graphics drivers. Is it 64-bit or 32-bit SketchUp. Shouldn't matter but those things that should aren't panning out. Slow down on the beer before the eyballs fall out.

Nobody knows what is planned for the next version. As with every other release, nothing is disclosed until the new version is released.

Is there a faster way than doing it manually? I mean something like select all faces whose normals are directed outside the sphere volume. Any suggestions? Thanks! mod = Sketchup.active_model ent = mod.entities sel = mod.selection bb=Geom;;BoundingBox.new faces=sel.grep(Sketchup;;Face) faces.each {|f| bb.add f.bounds} ctr=bb.center; sel.clear for f in faces sel.add f if ctr.vector_to(f.bounds.center).angle_between(f.normal)<90.degrees; end [image: WM50_SelectbyNormal.gif]

Thanks John, that helped - looks like Sketchup doesn't really do it too well, but through searching I found the 'watermark' function which at least lets me print my contact info on a drawing. Thanks again.

We have started a workflow like that and we only have 3 to 4 main components in the model But they have smaller units within them. It may be matter of sequencing of the updates when we move to constuction details which break down the models into scenes. Thanks

@pbacot said: Not sure what using the eyedropper has to do with this process--you can just choose the material from the browser right there. It's a quick way of showing someone the very basics of how materials can be sampled from one face and placed on another, and in the process show the material in the 'in model' section of the browser. If he knew that he could choose from the browser to begin with he wouldn't have needed to ask.
