BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Your current style is using color by layer. If you edit the style it's on the blue cube "modeling settings"

If you set the default[s] at the offset of opening the model - separately for circle and arc ! - then they are remembered during the use of that model. But next time they'll revert to the built-in defaults. There have bee attempts [at least on PC] to run a 'macro' key-stroke tool as SketchUp starts to reset the circle/arc segments... This old one probably won't work: http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=SetArcCircleDefaults This old one [mine!] just might: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=593781#p593781

Excellent - thanks again. Triangulating the cutting line was what I was missing. Cheers Tim

Sorry, I was under the impression Sketchup would also triangulate on import because I thought I did it once, but I used blender first, triangulated and then exported to obj again (but could be dae or 3ds) and then into sketchup. It's not that hard. There is another free OBJ importer that is from quad tools. It becomes available directly on sketchup file>import options and it never failed for me, but I used it only seldomly.

@cms 5ps said: Thanks JQL. I don't think that would work for me, as doing so would give every surface in my model that texture. Which would work for my scope drawings, but will not work for the rest of the design drawings. I will need to play around with it a bit. Well, now you know you can do that, so you can use it someday.

I use a Mac (macOS Sierra 10.12.3, SU 2017 Pro M2, Xcode 8.2.1) and I can't reproduce this issue. That doesn't mean it wasn't triggered by the update, but it depends on something specific to your system. I have no clue what, though.

Yes, I know that IE is the browser SU uses The IE version installed in Windows XP under VirtualBox is 8. I have tried to upgrade that to 9, but it wouldn't let me. I can't even run Windows Update because the browser is "out of date". I would have thought that "current" version of IE for a 2014 program would equate to the version of IE that was current at the time that the program was released. I would further think that IE 8 would fill that requirement. No?

So a little more info, I looking for an automatic way of doing this, so that I can improve the Spike photogrammetic camera product. We are prototyping a special Jpeg output from the Spike. The Jpeg will be deskewed, eg the measurement surface, which is usually oblique to the camera, will be flattened. Then we compute a resolution in DPI for the measurement surface, and apply this to the JPEG EXIF resolution fields. The idea, is that a CAD package imports the JPEG, reads the resolutions and presents the image with the correct physical measurements. This is intended to be a standard output, so for example, users can photograph the side of a building, put it into the CAD, and measure directly. Ive tested the concept in CorelDraw, which our Signage customer base use, and it works really well, it reads JPEG resolutions, get the image to the right size and makes downstream design work a lot simpler.

Hi, for your information the plugin SU2XL works on previous versions of SketchUp (from SU08 till SU2017). You can download it on the Extension Warenhouse: https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/su2xl-0 or on the http://www.wisext.com site: http://www.wisext.com (a windows installer is available to install easily the tool).

If your terrain is clean and connected, and softened-smoothed to one surface, With hidden geometry showing project image onto one face (or set the current face material to projected). Sample that face. Then with hidden geometry off, paint the whole surface. Or did you try this?

@bep said: Yes it is a so-cold sloppy Cad drawing. Use the plugin "flatten to plane" to get all geometry flat on the working plane. Use "edge tools" plugin to find and repair as many as possible small errors. Use the "make faces" plugin to make faces. Use the plugin "Cleanup" to get rid of all useless geometry. I would add do some manual clean up either before or upon import of CAD, you don't need some edges (crossing over multiple surfaces, not ending on another edge etc. ) that do not really represent or delineate 3d shapes and appear to be remnants of 2d drawing. Do this before you try to make faces.
