Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

You might be able to assign a different shortcut for the 'cancel operation' thing which would mean youd be able to put it closer to the spacebar, which is select arrow by default.

No problem Spence. Have a look around, they have some other pretty useful scripts there.

thanks a lot. I didnt know how to use the "Expand" command. doesnt really help me though, because I am permanently changing the model, thus adding and deleting components every other minute. but the expand-function is definitely something that needs to show up in SketchUp 7 for components created within the current file - preferably with a sort of tree structure, that enables you to easily retrace the parented component. of course thats something close to an outliner then. well, I hope they will think about that and surprise us with something increddibly useful...

Well, Bob, some say they experience slower performance with SU6 - others say SU6 is faster. For animation some still use SU4 because there they had a (temporary) fix for the irritating shadow flickering. I started with SU5 (free) and only purchaesed the Pro license when SU6 came out so there are many pro features I cannot compare (most of these features are now included into the free version, too). But that's a different story - at the end we'll end up hijacking Tom's thread...

Hi Yaakov, It is very important to set the gluing plane correctly. To do this, when createing a component, there is an option to set the axes. When it's a "glue-to" component, there won't be a z axis for it (just a blue cross) but setting the red and then green axes correctly on the plane you want to cut the opening is essential. As a quick workaround to make life easier, I usually start making my glue-to/cut-hole components on a single, vertical plane (using it as a drawing board) and in this case the gluing plane tends to be created on this plane and I don't have to manually set it.

Hi Dave, In the vieo driver settings you should set AA to be controlled by the application (i.e. by SU in this case). However OpenGL settings will only affect the screen appearance of the model what's more, the lower AA settings you choose from the OpenGL settings in SU, the better performance you may achieve with bigger models (although as a woodworker, you may not have extremely big and complex models like a landscape designer with lots of 3D trees for instance). The 2D raster export is not controlled by the OpenGL settings but by SU itself. When exporting, you should be able to set AA in the options dialogue. If this does not work however, there must be a problem. a workaround may be what Alan (Fraser) does in practice; export with a higher (say double) resolution and scale your image down in PS (or equivalent) using AA settings there. Actually he prefers this way of exporting / post-processing to straight SU+AA export. However if you export at 3000 pixels already, exporting at 6000 may be a bit too much.

I'm afraid there's no way you can turn inference off. You can set (turn off) length and degree snapping in the preferences but that won't turn off inference to axes and geometry in general.

Just make sure you have a face selected while adding the shortcut since the whole path doesn't exist in the shortcut list otherwise. I needed some time to figure this out and wanted to save you that minutes ....

@taffgoch said: Huh! Bizarre... ...actually it is there, but 'invisible.' I generally use the 'point at center' plugin for circles. I created a circle centered at the origin, used the 'point at center' context menu command, then deleted the circle. No guide point is visible, but if you select with the 'right-drag' select box, the 'entity info' box indicates a guide point is selected. Doing the exact same thing, just off center, creates and displays the guidepoint. Turning off axis visibility makes no difference, so that's not the problem. You can select and move the guidepoint, but it remains invisible! To me, this behavior looks like a reportable bug... Regards, Taff Yes, left>right selection reveals these guidepoints in 'Entity Info' but right>left does NOT! (*) Another thing is that they are actually there. Move them 50m from the origin and do a 'Zoom Extents'. You will zoom out in a way that these invisible points are on screen. I don't know how (in what way) they could contribute in causing the 'Clipping Plane' effect when they are far from the origin. You don't seem to be able to use them for snapping to. My advice: don't create any guidepoints in the origin itself. (you can snap to [0,0,0] anyway) Or maybe only with the 'Tape Measure' tool by draging from the origin (dashed line incuded) Wo3Dan (*) thanks Gaieus / (right is where your thumb is left, right? )

You can also do it dynamically. Click the zoom icon, hold down shift and click your left mouse button and move in and out.

@pixero said: I use Vray for SketchUp at work and I get all the "old" PCs to put them in a renderfarm. Actually they are not that old and this way I can speed up rendering a LOT even on single images. Works great. But you have to do some work in Vray before running the animation right? I suspect if you don't mess w/ the materials and lighting and such it would look odd. I basically want the exact same sort of output that sketchup would give me. -Brodie

The easy way is to use the K-Tools script, the spiral is slightly different from the one you get from successive quadrants - not that anyone would notice. Bob

Hi there I needed to print a facade that was not aligned to the axis. So I had to rotate the whole model. I find this quite annoying and see it as a missing function in Sketchup, even though it was the first time I needed it Thanks Jorgensen

Some beautiful geometry there Mr. Red. Actually it is possible to get a reasonable approximation of rope or other helical structures just using an image mapped to a cylindrical extrusion. It gets a little dodgy on the tighter curves, but in a large model serve its purpose pretty well. Link

So it seems that only nested components in groups explode via exporting. Have you tried not grouping them but making another component?

Hi, Just in case anybody else wants the answer... I have figured out that all you need to do is zoom out, point your cursor to where you need to go, and zoom back in. The focus goes where the cursor is pointing. Just a slightly different way of panning around but works. (Still prefer the SketchUp method though) Regards Mr S
