    Hi S'uppers,

I wanted to pop a question for the interested ones.
We all know Bryce popping up when we load a 'new file'.
I was wondering though which default start files you guys use and what objects or settings you have set as default.

Personally, I can imagine having a start file that has a ruler (in meters for me) instead of Bryces appearance.
Also, I can imagine some people want to have some kind of grid in their start files, or their most used components ready to drop...

It would be great to know what your optimal start file would look like....

i might be reading your post wrong but it sounds like you don't know that you can open new files with the settings of your choice..

set a blank(or not blank if you wish) file to your liking and then save it.. place that file in the templates folder - (mac) - HD/library/app support/google sketchup6/sketchup/resources/en-US/templates...

that file will now appear in the drop down preference list.. ( sketchup/preferences/template)..

select your new template and that will be the default for everything you open.. no bryce.. you can also have multiple custom templates..

Indeed one can make a custom default startup file, thanks for reminding.
The question however was what things people might add to it to have a better workflow when they start new models.

Nothing special here. I certainly "got rid" of Bryce (sorry about that) then the zoom level is important as well (generally speaking, people working on big scale - like landscape architects - should have a different zoom level from say woodworkers).

But apart from this, there isn't any other setting I have made. Maybe just in the styles . I don't use profiles unless some lines on a face tend to be too stubborn to separate faces or such. These times I turn them on.

          Gai...

Mines really boring. Just centered on the origin and blank. I always think there should be something else there, but i just cant work out what to put 😛

              this is mine.

may as well start off a model feeling good about myself!

My default file is a blank slate - just greenish gray ground and blue sky, located in Knoxville.

                My avatar is an anachronism.
