Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Hi Wim, I guess there would not be any problem with translating them but of course it would show some courtesy to ask the authors first. I sent you a Private Message about this, check your inbox.

Could you bring the text in as a texture (high res .jpeg) to a rectangle with hidden edges, then print?

I haven't personally used the slicer feature. My friend is basically done with the hull, from what I hear, but is looking to convert it to 3DS to get it into another program he's using. Ryan

While other 3d modelling tools might support non-coplanar quads - SU does not. So in many cases it would be impossible to convert triangles to quads within Sketchup.

That's a slick animation. @tomot said: I would hope Verlux don't consider this as a do-it yourself-home-handy-man-project. I think they may be leaning that way though... Last pair I installed had instruction sheets with "Tools needed for this project..." on the front.

I arrived a little late to this thread: I notice the discussion has meandered, which is normal, in forums. For those reading this thread, I have already donated 2 Ruby scripts to this forum which I wrote: I didn't claim copyright nor did I obfuscate the code so others could not read it, and anyone is free to use the code and alter it. Window Tools: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=14394&p=109705&hilit=window+tools#p108868 Door Tool: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=14008&p=105538&hilit=doortools#p105538 My investigation into Ruby coding lead me to believe that it was impossible to cut an opening into a wall, because a SketchUp wall is not actually a wall, its only to planes separated by a given distance, with 4 more planes defining the thickness, unlike a real 3d object which would require a Boolean operation to cut holes into it, or Nurb objects. However my 2 ruby scripts will cut openings into walls as long as the user enters the wall thickness into the dialog box prior to cutting the holes. SketchUp is a surface modeling program NOT a solid modeling program like ArchiCad, Maya, XIS, Max, C4D, or Rhino. Its also one of the main problems facing developers trying to produce workable export plugins from SketchUp to other 3d platforms. I found schedules the 3rd item on the list, to which not much attention has been paid. When I was creating AutoCad window and Door schedules many years ago, I could get them to print out via an Excel spreadsheet. So they could be incorporated in 8.5x 11 format into the back of a specification manual(s) I had to create a Dialog box consisting of some 15 attribute tags that needed to by filled out before a door could be inserted onto a AutoCad drawing file. So whats wrong with that! Nothing except AutoCad would change its menu structure each year. And with each newer version, it became impossible to keep up making changes to the menu structure, and to incorporate those Attribute and Lisp coded functions. And it got even harder, for the Firm, after I left. I heard later that they were making schedules the old fashioned way, which was much faster in the long run. I've been there just like Atl-Arch describing his attempt to build a stone cap parapet. I recall Working with a $3000.00 program from AutoDesk called Architectural Desktop, which was supposed to be used to draw repetitive floor plans, except they forgot to include an actual floor in the program that you could insert and which had actual thickness. I hope Revit users wont go through the same dilemma, now that AutoDesk bought them. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the schedule, good luck, Al

To see a section slice in a model, just nudge it away from your section plane by .01 or .1 inches (depending on scale / units / etc.). Works great... TIG's tool sounds great - but I use the built in tool to create a group, nudge it into the part of the model that is showing. I'll often slide it over 1000" or some handy number, make it into a component, and then edit, fill in the solids with various colors, textures, etc. Then detail it in LayOut.

Just take the model you submitted last year - put a tree on the roof and some Arroway wood on doors of the car, and maybe it will win this year.

Yes, For basic residential projects there would seem the need for typical Naming of Layers, Groups, reusable Components, Styles and Templates. I am not certain how to best do that, "create a base labeled and named blank project file, that you copy and work from" and created and saved components, established styles for schematics, working drawings and renderings, established font book, (typical construction materials, i.e. dimensional lumber, rebar, connectors, warehouse items), a fully stocked proven "warehouse", and within LayOut, established useful system of Layers, a symbols, notes, and details "scrapbook in LayOut", and appropriate templates for each phase of design and presentations and output sizes. Also would be good ... a PDF system for rapid communication, comments and corrections (not necessarily from LayOut, but that is what I currently use, on a specific layer, but then the responder needs to have LayOut) I am working on these. thanks for your perspective. aloha red

Hi Dave, When importing dwg/dxf, always check the Options and set the import units into what the original dxf was made. [image: i6xm_dxf.png] But I am sure you alrteady know that.

Yes, I was just trying to figure out how to link to the individual relnotes but it seems that they only put the "name" anchor tag to this SU 6 version. Well, anyway... It seems that they did not change anything with the kmz exporters (the main reason I still have SU 6 active) so I can safely download and reinstall it.

For question 1, are these components imported from another source, or did you model them yourself. If imported, could be the component is bilaterally symmetrical, and the other half is a mirrored copy? For question 2, that is tougher, unless either the cad program is trying to interpret the faces or Sketchup is trying to interpret the geometry of the cad source file?

Hi folks. Another workaround is : 1 - Group the welded curves to avoid damaging them with additional geometries. 2 - Add an edge between the two points where you want to attach a dimension line. 3 - Add the dimension using either the edge or its endpoint. 4 - Delete the edge, keeping only the dimension. 5 - If required, explode the group. Just ideas.
