A question for SU Pro users
-
Myself and a couple of other friends have been using Sketchup to try and design some "paper models." The main problem we're running into is that some of the unwrapping features aren't good enough for the things we're currently doing. I'm wondering if there is anyone here who would be willing to simply take a file that we'd email you, and convert it to 3DS, or one of the other formats available in Pro. I'd do it myself, but can't currently justify the cost.

could you tell us more about the model you're doing? its geometry, number of polygons, textures, things like that...
have you tried the unwrapping plugin?
will be glad to help.

Have you tried Jim's
unfoldtool
ruby ? That's pretty good at unfolding shapes.

There's agluetab
adder tool too [by another Ryan]...
http://github.com/rschenk/Sketchup-Glue-Tab-Plugin/You should be able to all of your unfolding within SUp free ?

My model really isn't that problematic, and yes, I have the unfolding tool AND Waybe. The main issue is that we'd like to be able to edit it further in another program. The guy I'm mainly asking for is doing a ship hull. You can see his project here: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/ships-watercraft/6119-design-study-8-a-2.html
If anyone's willing to help him out, send me an email at Ryan AT Lbirds.com
Thanks!

Have you also tried my Slicer to make bulkheads etc ?

I haven't personally used the slicer feature. My friend is basically done with the hull, from what I hear, but is looking to convert it to 3DS to get it into another program he's using.
