@agrazdi said: Is there a complete guide or book where i could find all those little details hidden in layout ? You might have a look at This book by Bonnie Roskes. I've learned to use LO without a book and I don't know exactly what is in Bonnie's book. @agrazdi said: 1 - When i insert a skethup model i can define which scale i want it to be, but lets say i want to draw directly in layout, how can i define the scale because in Sketchup it can be set in the print out window. When you are drawing in LayOut, you are drawing in paper space so if you draw a line that is 100mm long it should print out as 100mm long when you print the PDF (if you print without scaling). If you need to draw to some scale in LO, you might consider drawing in SU, importing to LO and setting the scale then. After that you could explode the viewport to make it just lines in LO. Render as vector before exploding. @agrazdi said: 2 - Lets say i draw a rectangle, i can't find a way to explode it or ungroup it in order to have the four lines alone. ( I Found it, USING SPLIT !! ) Excellent!

I just tried it on LayOut Mac, and it worked for me. Here's some things to verify: The style with edges colored with something other must be saved (verify in styles inspector in SketchUp). Make sure you updated the model in LayOut: check File->Document Setup->References to be sure. Render the model in vector. I exported to DXF because it was easier to see my output (Google Docs renders DXF's - sorry, still setting up the office). It worked for me with my beautiful lime green edges. b

@agrazdi said: When i export to DWG in layout - i think i understand everything in the export window, but when i open it in autocad i am completly lost. Are there tutorials or tips in this dwg export issue in especific. Thanks in advance What Gai said - if you export in raster, it exports a raster image. In ACAD make sure you check both paper and model space. If you exported to paper space (selection in Layout), then open ACAD in default model space, you will see nothing.

My '2dTools' include '2dLineStyle' [which also works in 3d] - it allows you to 'swap' selected lines for thin strips of faces [as groups, with the original edge moved to a hidden layer], which can have width/color/style you set from a dialog. There's a range of widths, all usual colors and CAD-style-dash/dots etc. If you select these you can get a context-menu that lets you edit their settings - so you can change their width/color/style as desired...

@pbacot said: Hi Agrazdi, I don't know but choose the paint bucket tool and hold down the command (apple) key to get the eyedropper. This picks up textures and colors. You can use the magnifying glass to pick up colors on the screen, but I don't trust this for a match of solid colors. Don't understand that part. hey peter.. the magnifying glass is part of OS X and it's available systemwide and in all of the color picker palettes.. it's used to sample the color of a pixel anywhere on the monitor exactly as it appears.. notice in the screenshot, the one green material has three different tones due to sketchup's shading.. the mag.glass doesn't consider the shading and will give the color as is.. using the magnifying glass on the cube will give me 3 different colors. if i use the su eyedropper (brush tool + cmmd) then it will sample the material as it appears Prior To having shading applied.. Draw a vertical plane face much bigger than you need. Draw a guide line from a corner of the shape onto the face - in the direct you want the projection. Copy the outermost edges of the shape and paste-in-place into a group [draw a temporary line to start that group]. Edit the group, select those edge lines and use ExtrudeEdgesByVector. Pick the guide line points from the shape's corner up to the face and beyond. You now have an extrusion piercing the face. Do some Intersecting to get the shape imprinted on the face and there you have the shape projected onto the face. Erase unwanted bits...

Hi Agrazdi, hi folks. See this SU file for ideas. This one was made when the Rotate Tool could not easily set its rotation axis and had to rely only on an orienting plane. Today, wit plugins that allow the twisting of a model, it would probably be easier. Also, now I would do one half and use mirroring possibilities to assemble a complete model. Moebius strip.skp

As I said in another thread, I have layers for everything, title block, notes, dimensions, model, etc. The first thing I do when I send something to LayOut is setup the model view I want, and then lock that layer.

This is a known issue that we are planning on fixing in the next maintenance release. The issue will occur when adding text and dimensions at true intersections. The workarounds: Option 1) Draw two intersecting lines at the point of intersection, add the text and then delete the lines. Option 2) You can use LayOut's new dimensioning tool to create the needed dimensions. You should not get the odd behavior while in LayOut. Cheers, CMD
