the thing is that i should only need to have the model opened in 3ds max (with the correct poly values and the such) and then export it to W3D. will fxb open/import in 3ds?

Ha! I told you you should try it on version 7. My guess was because the software retailer said the number came from Google and I guessed Google would not be giving out v6 licenses. So I thought there was a good chance it was actually for v.7. Well, glad you got it to work, even if you didn't believe me Chris

Thanks for the quick replies. I ended up importing the model in 3DS format, although it crashed SketchUp the first time I tried it. Still, it's good to know that there is a solution for small DXF format models.

@jean lemire said: Hi Jim, hi Gaieus, hi folks. ...... Sometimes, I would like to able to enter a d for the diameter but now it is not possible. Maybe that could be suggested for SU 8......... Jean, instead of 2000d for a diam. to be 2000mm just enter 2000/2 and [Enter] (units can't be included with this option though, just figures) The result will be R=2000/2mm =1000mm meaning the diameter will be 2000mm. PC only? or Mac too. Wo3Dan

Gaieus, you are sure right about non-profit, plus sweat-equity on recovering about 30 km of trails in my younger days. I really appreciate what Google Earth free allows us to do, it is a great service. Now I have work on my 3D SU models to populate the local GE terrain. Cheers

So far it's working really well for me with the whole Dave Method and then using the upright extruder with a thread profile. I'm printing at 0.06MM layer height to get accurate threads but it seems to be working, I managed to match an existing thread for a part I'm trying to replicate out of PETG as the existing is crap.

The face of the profile may still be inside your follow-me result. It could be causing the break. At this point with endpoints off it might not be as noticable but if its there it should still be removed as it is extranious geometry. It might also become a visual glitch again if you texture the model - as such perpendicular faces often 'bleed' through. To check to see if there are faces in those locations zoom in and turn on the x-ray display mode. If theirs the old profile face lurking inside there it should be apparent. If there is delete it and your lines might automatically heal. (In v7 they are more likely to heal than in earlier versions). You might then find you can turn back on the endpoints if you'd like. Regards, Ross

Yeah, it's a GE thing. Also, some have glitches with uploading from SU and this is the way they "share" their content. Remus; that share/hide function is relatively ne in the WH so the onlykmz option was earlier.

Hmm, I was trying to put together an example for you, and I am seeing that the mailto function does not work. I thought I could implement something like this (example from a website): <a href="mailto;manish@simplygraphix.com?subject=Feedback for webdevelopersnotes.com&body=The Tips and Tricks section is great">Send me an email</a> But it is not clickable. So I guess you could make an internal website for tech support for each device, then provide a link to the correct webpage from each component. So your DC's could have a list of links like: "Xerox 5362 Homepage" <-- points to the http://www.xerox.com/5362 (thats a made up link) "Request ink for Xerox 5362" <-- points to your webpage with a "Request Ink" button, sent to you. "Request Service" <-- points to your webpage with a button that sends an email to IT asking for service "Report Xerox 5362 as Broken/Not working" <-- Points to your webpage with a button that sends an email to IT letting them know the copier is "broken" ETC, I'm sure you get the idea. Might be a little bit of work, but it is an interesting way to create a 3d system for people to report faulty devices, find pdf help docs, request supplies, etc. Chris

I use my specification numbering system as a guide. My library is next to me, and I can look up and see the categories. 08 Windows > 01 component name, or 01 sub categories as necessary.
