I select Circle tool, type "12" for 12 sides. It shows up as Sides 12 in the lower right. I draw the circle, it has 24 sides.

Likewise, when using the BezierCurve ruby, it starts with 30 points as default. If I'm trying to cut the poly count and type another number, I still get 30 control points.

      Best,

      Jim

you need to hit return after youve typed in how many sides you want, might be where its going wrong.

Jim, with circles (and polygons) you specify the segment count by typing 12**s** rather than 12 (which would make the circle - after starting the drawing operation - of 12 units radius)

So the sequence goes like this (I too get this wrong half of the time)

            • select circle tool (don't click on anything with it yet)
            • type your segment count and hit Return
            • now you can start drawing circles.

Note that to change your segment count while drawing circles, you will have to pick another tool and then re-select the circle tool to be able to change the count.

SU is quite "liberal" with the order of actions actually. You can even draw your circle from click to click and then enter the segment number and then the radius OR first the radius and then the segments number - both work.

Hi Jim, hi Gaieus, hi folks.

                Gaieus,

If the very first thing you do after clicking on the Circle Tool (or Polygon Tool or Arc Tool)is typing a number and then pressing the RETURN or ENTER key, the number will be interpreted as the number of segments.

Otherwise, it works as you described, adding an s will be interpreted as the number of segments and a pure number as the radius. Sometimes, I would like to able to enter a d for the diameter but now it is not possible. Maybe that could be suggested for SU 8.

                Jim,

Once a circle is drawn, you can use the "Get info" function to change a few parameters of this circle. One of them is the segment count. This migth not be possible if other geometries are connected to the circle. For example, if only a line is attached to one of the endpoints, you will be able to change the number of segments. If a surface has an edge that is common with one edge of the circle, you will be able to change the number of segments for the part of the circle that is not affected by the face attached to one of the edge. If the circle has been pulled into a cylinder, you will not be able to change its segmentation. I suggest that you experiment to get an idea of what are the limits of this functionality of SU.

                Just ideas.

Jean, instead of 2000d for a diam. to be 2000mm just enter 2000/2 and [Enter]
(units can't be included with this option though, just figures)
The result will be R=2000/2mm =1000mm meaning the diameter will be 2000mm.
                  PC only? or Mac too.
