Yea, this model could be SU4 or SU5 originally. The one I opened was SU6. Problem is, resaving doesn't work. The bug follows the model. But I need to use that model. I got around it though by making a script that found the missing materials, and made fresh new copies of the materials, then iterate over the model and replace the old buggy materials with the new ones. That preserves the UV mapping that was done. I guess this is one of the one timers kind-of bug. I did have problems with the same model earlier. Due to the network paths. But only when I had V-Ray installed. V-Ray would try to access the original bitmap, but the path doesn't exist any more. So everything I did anything in SU, it'd freeze for 30secs. I sorted it by writing a script that'd export all textures of networked materials and reload them from a local path. Though, at that time I didn't notice I was missing some textures. weird stuff. and I'm stuck with this model. ghnngh

As Tricia mentioned earlier, it's a limitation in the OpenGL implementation under Windows. So a fix for this would rely on Microsoft...

I had the same problem with fifthtexas and i used to do the workaround mentioned above. But since you are using AutoCAD i found a tool named Plex.Earth which provides an evaluation version to download. This will be commercially available in a few days but you can have the full functionality until then to do your work. I think that you have to see it to believe it: i couldn't imagine that i would do the work i used to spend days in just some hours. If you want to do the work using SU, the above procedure in SU PRO is the only affordable way. If you want to do the work inside AutoCAD take a look at Plex.Earth

Or, you could use the hel_ramp ruby script found at the Ruby Library here: http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_geo_page.htm

Well, HellFire, since we don't know if Kemon uses Windows or Mac, your solution for Mac is rather academical for us, puny humans with Windows (but at least what I wrote is not a "nonsense" for Windows and most probably for the person asked). So back to your solution; "of course you canNOT disable it if you HAVEN'T got the tools..." @unknownuser said: "The next time you think something cannot be done. Think again." Good; the next time I'll think of asking you first. (Thank God this is not a Mac-Hack forum... ) On the other hand, I could (should) be glad that I learnt something new - and I generally am...

Yeah, the method I shows totally falls apart when you have different things that you want to update in each scene. You have to do that manually for sure. what I hate the worst is when I need to change layers on and off over lots of scenes That makes me cry. Chris

I don't know if it will help or not but here is a tutorial I did a while back on creating a 2D "Face Me" tree. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=680&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Tip: If the "start from scratch" Sandbox tool doesn't draw anything, try typing a lower number for the divisions.

Yow! that curved deck link is worth a look folks. Masterful work. It looks like the deck is more value than the house. I do worry the pine is too close, though. I designed a curvy deck for some folks, but I don't think it ever was built. You could've handled it, no problem. Thanks for the instructions.

Also, don't forget to update the scenes once you have layers turned on and off as desired. Chris

Many thanks for all your suggestions, the more I use SU it seems as if jiggling is a key feature of using it When I run into seemingly insurmountable problems it does take some of the fun out of it so some ocassional assistance is crucial to my SU development. Many thanks. I got it sorted in the end by adjusting where I placed the rotation axis and then moving it into place. when I find the way to edit or cut sections off an imported model I will be one step further. - 'edit' Got it! right click on the selection and edit component. Now we're cooking with gas.. Such is life. Thanks for your help teepee

another way (posted by susan sorger) is to create a template with a large number of disabled layers. thus when you create new geometry or dimensions/text just put it in one of the disabled layers, enable it and create a new scene. it will show only in the new scene.
