Ward, I'm glad that hlped. My model of Leominster, Herefordshire, is coming along. I think there are now about30 buildings accepted in GE with at least that many either waiting in the cue on 3DW or taking up space on my hard disk. Tom

Keep in mind that you only need to draw half of the back splat if it is symmetrical. Make that half a component, copy and flip to make the opposite side. Hide the seam lines to complete it. [image: 2db88f60.jpg]

The component cylinder idea works. Thanks so much for figuring this out. I have this problem a lot. Best, Ken Harstine @howard leslie said: Jim, Thanks very much for your reply. ......... Yes, its a very tricky problem The main problem is trying to create something that doesn't exist - a hole !!! ......... A Possible Workaround I'm thinking along the lines now of creating the holes as solid cylinders on a layer that can be turned off eg called "Hide" and the main body as a solid rectangle (as before). (Not REALLY solids obviously but you get the idea). That way you can repeat the holes (cylinders). (Cylinder = Potential Hole if you like). Once the components length has been defined and cylinders automatically repeated, edit component by selecting all cylinders. Then use Bool Tools (Thank you Dale) or manually cut out the Holes ........... Long Term - possibly add a behaviour to DCs for Holes ??? Is this possible ??? ........... Just some thoughts anyway Thanks once again Howard L'

Howdy back at ya Devin. Sometimes you can find fairly decent tutorials at google 3D warehouse. (Just type in tutorial as one of the key words in the search there.) http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ Sometimes you gotta dig around to find the gold nuggets.

Tried to look up "clamped" but the definitions are subject to its use in a API, so as I understand it, SU's textures repeat, but can be positioned, scaled, pinned, and stretched, in a manner that result in being clamped so that they appear not to repeat. I think !-) [image: jFQ7_temp.JPG]

Yeah, this is definitely THE example when you'd better go with the material. Even in PR rendering apps (with the proper bump and clipmaps of course)

That script would've helped me certainly. Rather, I ended up deleting all my layers and organising objects in groups using the Outliner which is what I should have done in the first place. Basically, what I have learnt: If you are dealing with a large model with a lot of components use the Outliner! (I think that's worthy advice, even if I am a first poster here.) Also, the good people of SketchUcation are a helpful bunch - thanks for the help all . Ryork
