@aadbuild said: Hey thanks Guys, I will get the dreaded 3d max sales person out to give me a run down. Australia needs some more Sketchupers, I tell every one I know how good it is but just cant seam to convince.... I think they think because its free it is not powerful? I have taught 2 people sketchup in my office and they love it and then they leave and start their own business. I know a few SU users in Perth. Infact, from what they tell me, SU is big in OZ Arch schools now. Even UWA arch course teaches students how to use them.

Please post at least an image, but more importantly a .skp of your model, so that someone can examine it and make suggestions for a solution.

Thanks Chris. I have a lot of plug ins, though many I don't use, so this will give me a chance to clean up my plug ins. This is the last bit of information I needed to decide to upgrade to 8. Again, thanks.

[quote="Saladyne"] I've created a fairly simple dynamic door called 'Door Multi' (search under BaxStudio), also attached. Also it was created on the PC version of Sketchup 8 so I don't know if it will work properly on a Mac. Any positive criticism/feedback would be gratefully received. And links to 'good' examples of Dynamic Components would be greatly appreciated! Hey thanks for a great component. I have just checked it out on my Mac and it seems to work fine. Its great to see a component that not only works well but looks great as well. I love Google but the components they come up with like doors, windows etc. are fairly lame. I have uploaded a DC called "block wall" http://bit.ly/kUCsmN See what you think of it. Its not perfect and anyone who would like to improve it I would be delighted to share credit- would love to partner up with people who want to make DCs commercially. Any takers?

@ Dave R : beside to learn of practicing the SU, yes i want to make bed like that.for my 4 months daughter. it's so rare in Indonesia furniture like that. so i think if i could be able to draw like that maybe it will lead me to next level of design and using SU. but still so hard to be able build it. even there's example pictures. i think i need to take a course. any ideas where can i take course? it will be fine it if overseas. then i can bring my wife and daughter.hehe.. yes it's a childern bed. @ Gaieus : thank you gaieus. the reason i dont upgrade to su 8 is i still want to learn the basic first, if i already good enough. then i will upgrade it. just my opinion. yes thank you for your advice. i will learn it about the component. i will post it after i try again to fix my modelling. again sorry for my bad english.. thank you so much. this forum and your reply help me a lot.. GBU everyone

Acad drawing elements are unlike other Cad applications. In Acad, a line can be a simple 3d line, or rectangle with thickness, and extrusion direction (vector). A acad line with a thickness of 0.0 is a line, with a thickness of 1 inch, it is a rectangle with a height of 1 inch. You can not make a line with thickness in SketchUp. The SketchUp importer changes a line with thickness into a face. In SketchUp, when you model a set of connected edges in the x,y plane(say a polyline), then you loft the edges in the z direction, Sketchup will change the connected line into connected faces, and edges. SketchUp's DXF exporter will not translate this model into a polyline with thickness. The following is a portion of an ASCII DXF with some of my notes prefaced with #. A DXF listing always starts with a group code then followed by the data. This sequence is repeated throughout. Thickness, and bulge are as the tables above indicates. Some of the group codes are documented under "common group codes for entities". . . 0 #Acad group code precedes every piece of data POLYLINE #data is entity Name 5 #Acad group code for handle 29 #handle 8 #Acad group code for layer name T-2DPLINE-3 #layer name 62 #etc. 5 #etc. 66 1 10 #Acad group code for x 0.0 #x 20 #Acad group code for y 0.0 #y 30 #Acad group code for z 0.0 #z 39 #Acad group code for thickness 2.4332129974000671 #thickness 40 2.0 0 VERTEX #first vertex in polyline 5 34 8 T-2DPLINE-3 62 5 10 -1.3768750602197291 20 -3.437321703110606 30 0.0 0 VERTEX #second vertex in ployline 5 35 8 T-2DPLINE-3 62 5 10 -0.8415682007917144 20 3.2296819097655769 30 0.0 42 #Acad group code for bulge -0.9902342116099923 #bulge data 0 . . I do not know what AutoCad drawing elements require entity thickness, width, and bulge. At one time Acad dimension line arrow heads used a lwpolyline with width, but I do not know if Acad 2011 continues to do so. My copy of Volo View is good up to Acad 2000. Thanks for the info on TrueView. Had it on my system at one time, but didn't like, and removed it.

FWIW, the SketchUp inspector window has always been displayed by default on my installations of LO. I believe the default is to have all of the inspector windows out on the right side although they can be closed.

@tig said: @kachupp This tool requires a not inexpensive 3rd-party add-on to Windows to be usable... Can't it be done in a normal cmd/bat format ? Yes I have found a way to do a .BAT / .CMD style way very simple indeed It appears just by deleting two specific keys instead of all has the same effect as resetting the DAY one toolbar option. Then re-instate the deleted keys restores the two deleted entries without duplicate errors. These re-instated keys do need the correct data not a problem will get to the bottom of it. "reg import whatever.reg" quick fix It shouldn't in theory matter if you have thousands of useless keynames but it does because of a possible bug that's known. TT said so, I take his word as the truth Love your work Thomas Will get back soon.. But the two keys we are interested in are ToolbarsUser-Summary / ToolbarsUserCustom-Summary if they don't window each other its a problem. The data stored in those keys isn't hard to comprehend.

This is an old topic, but this is how I managed this in SketchUp 2017 Pro: Download & install Jim's plugin from the link above. Modify the file name format as you demand, in the plugin's preferences. Re-assign Ctrl+S to the plugin's SaveAs command, in SketchUp's preferences. Now you can save an old-version copy of your work by pressing Ctrl+S. I needed this solution because I am exporting models from SketchUp to Unity3D, which only supports up to version 2015, whilst I am working in version 2017. This is super easy of a workaround but I hope this made it clear for you )))

Yes, the sandbox tools would be the "native" way to do it (although those are actually plugins themselves, too). If you are in to such curvy modelling; it has never been easy with simple SU tools. Either you need to "hand stitch" the curves from endpoint to endpoint (often triangulated) or use different trick of autofolding or intersecting faces... It is not the best thing to try these techniques (while learning) on a real model you are working on but if you can separate individual examples (preferably simple ones from scratch), we can go through a couple of tips and tricks. And there are of course those different, marvellous plugins nowadays. Go to the Plugins subforum under Resources and check out one of the sticky posts: "Plugin index" (or what). Search for loft-ing, skin-ning etc.

Either make the 'window' flat on the ground OR make it on a 'wall'. When you make the selected geometry into a component read the dialog and choose to make it glued/cutting as desired...
