I am using a RevitLT / SketchUp workflow. I've tried all manner of programs and in the end settled on RevitLT. The documentation is what sells it for me - grids, schedules, tags for windows and doors, etc. That being said, nothing rivals SkecthUp for the 3D modeling of odd stuff and all the possibilities of presentation. I model everything I can in RevitLT and export the file as an acis solid dwg. This imports into SketchUp without any problems with all the Revit objects becoming components or groups. What doesn't happen is the importing of the textures. I do the texture application in SketchUp. This isn't as onerous as it sounds. I use Simlab for 3D pdfs from SketchUp and find it quite useful. I can't use the Revit plugin as LT doesn't support plugins so I can't comment on that. Not a perfect workflow but pretty good. KrisM

Solo, Thanks for the helpful explanation and posting the proxy primitive. As I suspected it all comes down to practice, practice, practice. Now I just need to find a poly-reducing plugin for my eyes .

Thanks for that additional info, rabbit. Very encouraging. Knowing my AutoCAD experience will carry over somewhat is nice to hear. I put together a little presentation, a render, some 2D drawings as I would've produced in AutoCAD, and exported a 3D PDF page where you can see the model and spin it around right there in the PDF and sent that off to my boss. I'll see what he thinks and if he's into it, I'll definitely be looking more into Rhino.

The only complication is if you open a SKP file with v8 that you later want to use in v7 you must have done a v8 'save_as v7' for it be be usable in v7 afterwards........

I took a look at getting Didiers's Layer Names to Materials ruby working. I posted a new version in this thread: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=36715 [image: Pd88_ConvertLayerNamestoMaterials.jpg] convert_materials_to_layer_names.rb

@saladyne said: No-one else stepped in so I've done a bit more research and there is a problem with the coding in fizgig's DC. To quote the 'Assembling a Dynamic Component' example from this site; "When you want to reference an attribute value quotation marks are not needed. If you are telling an attribute to do something they are needed". The quotes are noticeably missing around 'swing_angle' in fizgig's component... adding them in fixes the problem of creating a rogue attribute. It doesn't however fix the referencing issues, but these can be corrected by moving the 'onClick ANIMATE' command to the BODY part of the component. Sorry Saladyne, I didn't see your post there. Funny enough, I ran into the problem again and knew I had discussed it before. I just came back and searched for my posts and found this thread and your last post about the need for quotes. That did the trick. Thanks so much!

If the plugin doesn't run, there are two likely problems. Either it isn't installed correctly or you haven't got IE installed. If you want to try to use it, let me know by PM and I'll help. As to board dimensions--I assume you are referring to sheet materials--there may be an option we can try. If you've already given up on it, I won't bother.

Use the protractor tool. Bring it onto the face, then hold 'shift' to lock it to that plane. Click on one corner of the face, then the opposite corner, then the opposite corner one more time to draw a guide along the surface of the face. Now use the 'shift' key to lock the protractor to the red or green axis (depending on the orientation of your original face). Click once on the previously created guide (to start another guide). Click again elsewhere on the same guide. Type '90' and hit 'enter'. Now you have a guide to use to draw your line. No plugin needed.

Your elevation ticks are way under sampled. There are many curves that can fit the data( plan view) you have presented. If you want just a picture then what Dave has shown is great but if its use is for some real world application then you will have to establish some criteria on the spacing of you elevation samples and usually based on some type of rms error etc.

@steveandbelinda said: Okay, only additional thing that now shows up in the plugins dropdown is Chris Fulmers shape bender (which I can't seem to get to work, probably me). Neither angle_between.rb, or plane_angle.rb show up anywhere. Sorry guys, but I do appreciate the help. Steve As I thought I'd explained.... scripts like 'angle_between' and 'plane_angle' WON'T necessarily "show up" - they are used by other tools - just because you have a script loading it doesn't mean you'll get a menu item - in fact some scripts can load more than one menu item whilst others provide 'support' for other scripts 'anonymously' and others only appear on context-menus or must be run by typing their specific command into the Ruby Console........

I can't say for sure. Your issue sounds similar to one I was having while using a pocket usb drive. I was hoping my mention would spark something with someone else.

No problem Sam. Welcome to SCF! Kerkythea is a good choice. Very powerful and if you get to grips with it you'll find other render apps much more forgiving. I never invested enough time with it. But I've got it's new commercial brother Thea and it's incredible. Anyway, enjoy what we've on offer around here and don't forget to thanks all those generous plugin guys for there efforts.
