Found a company, TerraSolid, in our neighborhood which produces programs for processing of this kind of data. Unfortunately their applications cost zillions, so it seems I have to go on with the started project. There is an open source activity at http://liblas.org/ which seems to be very useful. They feature a list of other commercial packages which seem to be based on the os library. The liblas library is based on work done by Martin Isenburg and Jonathan Shewchuk, who are also authors of a set of command line LAS utilities called LAStools at http://www.cs.unc.edu/~isenburg/lastools/, which seems to achieve much of the essential groundwork for our project. Martin's utility "lasclip.exe clips away points falling into polygonal shapes (e.g. complex building footprints)." If the LAS file contains projection information, the las2dem.exe will also "be able to create a KML file that geo-references the DEM for display within Google Earth". The two developers also produced an interesting article "Visualizing LIDAR in Google Earth" http://www.cs.unc.edu/~isenburg/googleearth/ [image: rPUJ_P5122C1_detail.png] For a map view of the same area see: http://tinyurl.com/455gcft

@tig said: Thoryan That's because you haven't installed the additional required 'LibFredo6', as explained on the tools download page! Get it from the link, extract it and install, and restart... Thanks Tig, that's done the trick nicely!

Hey, it's me again - I just wanted to say thanks again for all the links to the websites and books that all of you have provided so far. You've really helped me find my bearings and I'm not feeling like I'm playing catch-up all the time!

Okay. That was my first newbie lesson. The answer was in the basic Google tutorial video on dimensions. For posterity...go to Window>Model Info>Dimensions.

Actually this has been around for as long as I can remember. And while I use thomthom's cleanup script and purge all the time, this is still a big issue because sometimes you want to forcefully delete a material that is still in your scene. This happens a lot when you bring in some 3d elements and such and end up with a few oddball materials that you don't want, but don't want to dig around and find out where they are in the model. -Brodie

I certainly dream of more than this, but this would be a great step in the right direction. The current UV tools available through ruby do me no good for just the reason you mention. When I want to wrap a stucco material around a column it scales way too large with no means of tiling it as you mention. Creating a custom material for such things is too much of a bother for me and clutters things up. -Brodie

mac1, I wanted to come back and thank you for all of the time you put into helping me. With your examples and the component stringer, plus a bit of planning, I was able to get the effect that I was looking for. Thank you very, very much!

Hello Guys I found the solution to my problem. The model was imported into Sketchup too small. Windows were only 1.1 mm high. The model displayed Ok when I enlarged it by a factor of 1000. That is, clipping plane and two tone display are now gone. Thaks for your help. Walter

I have had no issues with weld.rb Maybe Recurve is conflicting with weld? I have not yet used Recurve, I will check it out.

fwiw, you can also select - > right click -> unhide you can select a bunch of faces along with the hidden lines and it won't matter (ie- window selection etc is ok).. but the real way to avoid it is not to hide any lines in the first place (well, for me at least.. i just never have a use for hiding lines as opposed to softening them)

You can get pretty far with the sand box tool. Once you get the hang of it, check out thomthom's vertex plug in for fine editing. If you have the grading plan it is pretty quick to create terrain from contours. Check out spray component plugin to apply plants.

I came across this thread while looking for solutions to some of my issue. i.e 'formulas' They're not perfect but I'm pretty proud of them, especially the drawer cabinet, with all the drawer boxes. Go ahead. Stretch out the floor cabinets to the construction lines along the walls. The wall cabinets stretch on the Z axis as well as the X axis. As I said, a work in progress. Walls 2.skp

The difference between the two is probably best explained on a simple cylinder. [image: EwXZ_soften.jpg]
