Why is it that when you've got a model with say, 25 materials, right-clicking a material to delete it from the Materials panel takes like 30 seconds before the menu pops up to let you delete it?

Yes, seems to be a recent thing...and the bigger the model, the longer it takes. It's way shorter using ThomThom's cleanup script.

I've seen this behaviour since SU6.
However, my models are much larger now, with better hardware, compared to when I started - with SU6. So the effect is more noticeable.

Actually this has been around for as long as I can remember. And while I use thomthom's cleanup script and purge all the time, this is still a big issue because sometimes you want to forcefully delete a material that is still in your scene. This happens a lot when you bring in some 3d elements and such and end up with a few oddball materials that you don't want, but don't want to dig around and find out where they are in the model.
