Maybe this one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=39308 a simpler solution than the more robust JointPushPull: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=6708

Still useful in 2020 ...could be interesting if a sort of simplified method could be introduced by the developers!

@tig said: You can of course make it a physical object, after some not inconsiderable modeling and effort you'll end up with thousands of bits of geometry or at least several components for the central repeated parts and the various edge pieces... BUT have you considered using a suitable textured material applied onto a flat face? This will usually be far more efficient and it can often look as effective in many situations... Obviously 3d objects like sofas need the 3d modeling, but you said an upholstered 'wall'... which will be 'flat' anyway ? I so sorry my english not well, but thank for your advise. @jean-franco said: Hi, Dave Richards did something to be seen here: http://www.finewoodworking.com/item/17970/upholstering-your-furniture I think it work for me.thanks so much.

TIG is correct...otherwise beta testers would have real problems. Most beta testers continue to run a licensed Pro current version while also running a separately licensed Pro beta version of the next release on the same machine. There is no interaction. It sounds like in this instance there may have been some hiccup in the installation procedure. I've experienced similar...usually by forgetting to run the install as an administrator, or something like that.

@Dave - I know what you mean. Even apps notionally doing the same thing can differ markedly in the way they are used and in this instance I'd actually argue that it's AutoCAD's way of doing things that is peculiar (I'm not aware of other programs where you have to press Escape to unselect). It is a bit disappointing however to hear that Google don't seem to be interested in at least offering a customisation feature to disable Escape given how large a potential market AutoCAD users represent. Thanks for the replies If there's anywhere to suggest new features I'll add my name to that one.

Look for the Paint Bucket tool or click on Window>Materials. I would suggest you read through the Help files and also watch the basic tutorials on the SketchUp site. I think you'll find them extremely educational.

what's the name of the plugin that analyzes your model for heavy components? Found it... Goldilocks. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31881 couldn't find it in the pluginstore.

Thanks Jim Sorry about the extra components in the file. I have purged them and uploaded the new file to SteelSelect - lot smaller I understand your comments on The poly-count - this model was one that we imported from AutoCAD and does look very heavy on the lines. What process would you recommend to drop the count? Regards Richard

Have you looked in The Plugins Index ? Here's an STL import/export tool http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=209946#p209946 There are also other threads about STL files and 3d-printing in general etc. This took 2 seconds [in mm]Housing.zip

@dave r said: It looks to me as if you have a couple of internal faces. You could probably just delete the top edges that were highlighted by the plugin and it would be fine. that assumes the top faces on either side of those lines are co-planar. If not, orbit inside the model and delete the faces or delete a face on top so you can see the internal faces and delete them, the trace along one edge (not those highlighted edges, though) and heal the missing face. Dave! Thank you so much! lawll i did try the deleting edges beforehand, but that also deleted a huge chunk of other stuff. I never thought to delete the actual inner face! haha, thanks again

I'm glad that you posted that link...I had never seen that tutorial and I really learned a lot about texture mapping from it. It is nicely written and as you say, has lots of good visual examples. Nice recommendation.

Do you have a Plugins menu? And did you restart SketchUp after installing the plugin into the Plugins directory? If there is no Plugins menu, go to Window>Preferences>Extensions and tick the boxes you find there. If you haven't restarted sketchUp, close it and re-open it. this is copied from the instructions included in the plugin file. You can open and read .rb files in any text editor. @unknownuser said: Usage: 1. Select entities. [IF there's no selection ALL active entities are used] 2. Activate the script from the Plugins Menu. 3. Choose Old Material [to be replaced]. << DEFAULT-FRONT >> = NO Material on Front-Face << DEFAULT-BACK >> = NO Material on Back-Face << DEFAULT >> = ALL Entities that have NO Materials (e.g. Front AND Back Faces, and Text etc) << ALL >> = ALL Materials (Any Face and Any Entitiy) and then an Alphabetical list of other Materials in the Model. 4. Choose the desired New Material. [<< DEFAULT >> = No Material] To access Materials that are off the visible list type the first letter - e.g. 'W' and use up/down arrow-keys to move to the one you want e.g. 'W'hite..
