    • Convert to .stl?

      Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to prepare a model for 3D printing at my local university machine shop. The printer accepts only .stl files, however, and I am having a hard time achieving that.

What I tried was to convert the .skp to .dwg so autoCAD could accept it (i have no idea how to use CAD or i would have done that in the first place), then I tried to convert the .dwg to .stl. However, although thomthom's solid inspector says my model has no mesh problems on sketchup, Autocad would not export my file because it apparently found some problems (which again, i have no idea how to fix).

So my question is, is there any way to convert directly to .stl, and have a working file that will print properly? thanks πŸ˜„

It looks to me as if you have a couple of internal faces. You could probably just delete the top edges that were highlighted by the plugin and it would be fine. that assumes the top faces on either side of those lines are co-planar. If not, orbit inside the model and delete the faces or delete a face on top so you can see the internal faces and delete them, the trace along one edge (not those highlighted edges, though) and heal the missing face.

      Dave! Thank you so much!

lawll i did try the deleting edges beforehand, but that also deleted a huge chunk of other stuff. I never thought to delete the actual inner face!

      haha, thanks again πŸ˜„
