@joelm3dm said: I don't know what you mean by "upper right icon" ... but I am talking only about the SKB icons. SKP should remain thumbnails. There is a registry tweak for this. Darn right there is a registry tweak for it. There's a reg tweak for everything on a Windows machine. It's really comparable to brain surgery, except on a computer it isn't guesswork, it's absolutely mathematical precision and guessing gets you a fouled machine. It's 2019 now and I have a similar problem, except my .skb files are the ones showing a small representation of the model as the icon, and my .skp files show the generic Sketchup icon. Want to swap that situation, and KNOW there's a fix, just don't have the same technical fortitude as I did back in the 90's to find the problem. Anyone know what the fix is? Not afraid of the registry, if that's what it takes, but not finding much insight from other users at the moment. And yes I'm averse to installing unnecessary third party browsers, etc, simply to view a thumbnail/icon as it should appear, when the problem can be fixed internally within Windows. With curviloft, you will most probably get a group which is separated from the contours (and their "fillings") therefore it must have holes at the two ends. Copy/paste (in place) those ends into the "curvilofetd" group. (Or post your model, too, so we can have a look).

Here is a link I discovered that gets down into the details of colors, plus it basically has cross references to all brands and all color names: http://encycolorpedia.com The front page is fairly sparse, so you have to type in a search term, or you have to click on the hyperlinks under the search bar. I found this because I had an existing paint in my home that I wanted to match and I was looking for RGB values (I find the sampling technique a little fussy). So I just make a new material in SU and type in the RGB values. Volia! This site breaks down your chosen color into 22 "colorspaces" (e.g., RGB, RGBA, RYB, Hex, HSV, and an host of alphabet soup which I don't understand), shows "color wheel" compliments, analogous, split, triad, square, etc..., hues and saturation variants, related colors, color variants, and a complete mapping to all colors to paint schemes from all paint manufactures (I can't count them all) to include home (Behr, Glidden, Sherwin-Williams), designer (Martha Stewart, Ralph Lauren) Automotive (DuPont), Models (Testors, Revell), and even Crayola! I think if you want a great resource for the real details of color this is it! Plus -- the place isn't plastered with advertising and doesn't ask for registration or a fee. I think I saw one advertising banner inconspicuously placeed somewhere on top. Let me know what you think! Frank

@unknownuser said: using a line doesn't trigger the behavior.. using the rectangle tool does.. Maybe the tools, Arc and Rectangle, runs edge.find_faces on all connected edges instead of only on the newly added edges? Where the Line tool does it on all just the new edge. Just wildly guessing.

@unknownuser said: there's another way to do this that i've seen a few people around here using (myself included).. is to put the plugins folder in the finder sidebar.. I considered doing that too, but my Sidebar is already pretty full of things I need to access much more often than the Plugins folder so I opted for the alias approach for items like that instead. Otherwise, I would probably end up having to scroll through the Sidebar as often as the file list itself! Either way, I would opt for moving the unzipped folder contents into the Plugins folder instead of copying & pasting them there to avoid wasting disk space on redundant copies in the Downloads folder & cluttering up file search results with all the extra copies. Retaining just the compact, zipped file in case I need to reinstall the plugin saves a little space & is slightly more resistant to mishaps like accidentally renaming or moving one of its component files out of its proper place in the folder hierarchy.

Jeff: "mac dictionary is giving me this: ain't |ānt| informal contraction" I was just kidding Jeff (by using it as a word). I think Twain pretty well cemented it into the language. It just ain't proper to use with real folks.

@dave r said: At that size, no, it probably isn't tiny faces. That's probably the most common reason for missing faces, though. What happens if you try tracing over the edges of the holes, can you fill them in with faces? Why not model half the fuselage and then copy and flip the copy to make the opposite half? It would save you a lot of work. No, I guesss its not tiny faces. Yes, I can trace over the missing faces. But If I skin the whole model, I end up with about 200 holes, I have to close... I tried modeling half the fuselage, but Curviloft produces a rounded edge on the inside of the fuselage, where I would joint the two halfs together. If I do that, I end up with a thick dark line in the middle, as soon as I put the two halfs together.

AND, make component instead of groups, and rotate copy so every modification on one instance is reported on the others. ANd the size of your file will seriously decrease, less weight, less work... Also you are modeling under the origin, any reason? [image: C5SE_Dome1.png]

@shannakae said: Hi there, I am new to this forum. I am an interior designer and have been using 3d programs like form z and sketch up for about 12 years now. I have recently decided to commit myself to mastering Sketchup. After spending hours upon hours going through tutorials and trying out the trial versions of Maya and Cinema 4d I finally realized that Sketchup was Sooooooooo much easier to use (for my purposes, interior design). I have been using Sketchup with a renderer for the past 7 to 8 years but had not really committed myself to learning it or exploring all that it had to offer. After trying to learn Maya and 4D Sketchup is like a DREAM! Now I see that there are all these great plugins that allow for fantastic sculpting and realistic modeling (sooo easy to use). So far here is what I have set up. I have Sketchup pro (so i can create my own custom furniture and options for easy interior design changes and for easy furniture and fixture schedules with pricing etc...) I have V-ray for rendering, and I have installed Artisan (for creating complex organic shapes). I was reading about something called "round corners" that I am about to install... Does anyone have any additional cool plugins or advise for me for creating hight quality furniture and interior design renderings for my interior design business? Thanks so much I look forward to being a part of this community! Hello. I am also new to interior design and use SketchUp. Two months ago, I started work on redecorating my apartment. Independently worked on interior design. The most difficult moment was the decoration of the walls. As a result, I decided to just make the walls in gray-beige tones, purchased wallpaper in https://fancywalls.eu/peel-and-stick-wallpaper-wholesale/ and pasted over the walls with them. I will attach a photo below. Seems to look good [image: IEoi_images.jpg]

You get that AutoCAD message when the DWG isn't an authentic AutoCAD DWG - AutoCAD puts a 'watermark' inside the DWG... Weird... you can PM the r2000 DWG [zipped?] to me and I'll look at it...

what about if it's a dynamic component and the material is selected for the component via the component options box? for example different options could be... oak, maple ash, beech etc.... I've found that if you go into the component and start messing with the textures on the faces (so i can get the grain lined up for it to look right) then when you want to change the material via the component options dialog it no longer works as the material is over ridden by the material applied to the faces... but the only way to change the texture mapping on the faces is to actually apply the material on the faces rather than the component! This seems completely daft and makes dynamic components very limited in terms of texture mapping... is there a way around this??? Thanks Matt

Another way. I also thought there was no need to act on all the faces. Here is a complex model. Skirt made with TIG's extrude-edges-by-vector-to-object EEbyVTO. Only problem I have trouble getting all the edges to go all the way to the face (I wonder if there's a lack of technique on my part). So I then pull the face up and intersect with model. (This method seems to choke on an even more complex model, but it might work.)
