Design problem
-
I'm doing this on UK time so afternoon all, I am fairly sure there is an easy solution to this problem but for the life of me I cannot figure it out, I want to intersect a circular wall in such a way that the internal chord on an arch column is equal to the external chord, that is no "splaying" it is for a design, but I can get away with it as is, just looks messy", any help would be appreciated, I have thought of ellipses which may be the way to go but just to make it clear the height of the arch is the same both sides, what I need to do is make the inside "column" the same as the outside. Any help is much appreciated. Should anyone want to contact me directly my email is: iains2007 @ hotmail.com
Thanks a lot guys and gals

.
just use extruded half-circles then intersect..
the inner & outer arcs will have the same chord length because they're actually the same arc..(that said, the way you're already drawing it seems more proper to me)
edit- (well, your drawing has the splay exaggerated for whatever reason.. (possibly caused from drawing one side then using jointpushpull for the offset surface? but realistically, the inside of the arch would have a smaller chord than the outside) -
AND, make component instead of groups, and rotate copy so every modification on one instance is reported on the others.
ANd the size of your file will seriously decrease, less weight, less work...Also you are modeling under the origin, any reason?
