Don't you simply click the upper right icon and choose icons instead of thumbnails ?

I don't know what you mean by "upper right icon" ... but I am talking only about the SKB icons. SKP should remain thumbnails.

There is a registry tweak for this.

I believe this is "simply" not about the type of view in a certain file manager.

All skp and skb files include the thumbnail, and when installing SketchUp it registers an extension in the system the lets the system extract and display the embedded thumbnail. This should probably only be registered for files that end with ".skp". I wonder how that could have changed (maybe different SketchUp version?). Although there might be technical ways to fix it (through the registry), I don't know how it occured and what the regular way would be.
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling SketchUp?

No, I didn't try a reinstall. That seems a bit drastic, though. I remember there is an easy registry tweak. Someone here told me about it. I do not remember what it is.

I found my old posts, including the one about SKB icons:

              Run Regedit
              Find
              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes.skb
and delete this entry, this don´t interfere with the .skp thumbs, so if you rename the >.skb to .skp the thumbnail will appear normally.

The problem here is the Forum Search function didn't find what I was looking for. I searched on "SKB" but it found nothing. Am I using it wrong? Or is not working?

The forums software is set to ignore search words that are not longer than 3 characters (it thinks it would give too many results).
I think we are a forum that needs short search terms, skp, rbz, js, jim, tt, etc. 😉

It would be good if it said that. Instead of "Sorry, Charlie, no results", the results page could say "You entered only 3 letters so your search is going to be completely ignored. Sorry, Charlie."

To search SCF for short strings use Google in your browser and type:
                    site:sketchucation.com skb icon
It will list all posts containing 'skb' and 'icon'
Obviously you can modify the search pattern... 😒

Management has tried a few times to make it so we can serach for any sized word. So far the board has never accepted the change though. Its a mystery...

Darn right there is a registry tweak for it. There's a reg tweak for everything on a Windows machine. It's really comparable to brain surgery, except on a computer it isn't guesswork, it's absolutely mathematical precision and guessing gets you a fouled machine. It's 2019 now and I have a similar problem, except my .skb files are the ones showing a small representation of the model as the icon, and my .skp files show the generic Sketchup icon. Want to swap that situation, and KNOW there's a fix, just don't have the same technical fortitude as I did back in the 90's to find the problem. Anyone know what the fix is? Not afraid of the registry, if that's what it takes, but not finding much insight from other users at the moment. And yes I'm averse to installing unnecessary third party browsers, etc, simply to view a thumbnail/icon as it should appear, when the problem can be fixed internally within Windows.
