If you import an image-file as an Image you can have it NOT glued by simply inserting it in free-space. If you have imported it an placed it onto a face it will glue onto it... BUT all is not lost... Select the Image and the context-menu has an item 'Unglue': if you use that tool then the Image will be no longer 'stuck' onto that face, and it can then be move/rotated etc as desired - much like a Component that has gluing/cutting behavior like a window or door, that can also be 'unglued'...

OK, I worked it out, I had unhidden everything, and obviously the outside lines in the components had been hidden, rather than 'alt' erased, so when I unhid all, they appeared. So problem solved.

That makes sense. Use the right tool for the job.

Well, here is the guide line for the individual buildings: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1267399 Then you can also add a (small) "terrain skirt" (which I would use for that central area if it is only raised and not a building like a garage): http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=167465 But make sure that small is small. Like it should not extend out of the yard in your case, I guess. Here is the guide line: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1267403 And all the guide lines: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1267260

@mac1 said: If you want to trace over each and every face that is your call. The trace method works when I trace over any one edge of each missing face. The 'make face' plugin method requires that I first select every edge of a missing face (& of course no edges of anything else) before it will form the face. So for me it is an easy call to make because there are far fewer steps involved. Better yet, there is no need to find & select all the edges. Depending on the complexity of the model, that can require a lot of tedious orbiting & zooming to make sure just the right edges are selected.

Maybe you could lighten the Edge color from the Styles dialog.

Ah ok. I guess I want it to act like Photoshop sometimes (you can do that there)... but you can't have everything, eh...

There are some issues with the full sized pump, too. I fixed them and made a scaled down version of it in the same file. A good way to to check is to make a component of the model and see if SketchUp reports it as "solid". You have some internal faces that need to be removed. See the first three screen shots. [image: 8RaX_GP1.png] [image: rLDC_GP2.png] [image: ldHu_GP3.png] They're not only internal faces but the sort of mottled look indicates there are two faces in the same space. The mottle look is referred to as z-fighting. After clean up the pump shows as solid and you can see those internal faces have been removed. [image: YGd3_GP4.png] If you are wanting to make this as three separate pieces, you would want to make three separate components and possibly different SKP files for printing. Do you intend for the glass reservoir to be printed as transparent? By the way, I think you would find it much easier to draw things like this if you turn off endpoints, set precision higher (1/64") and turn off Length Snapping. If this is to be a single piece when you finish, you could have drawn a section profile and used Follow Me to make it 3D and for no bigger than the final model is, you probably don't need 108 segments in your circles. If you'll be doing much of this you'll probably find the following Plugins useful. ThomThom's Solid Inspector. TIG's Solid Solver. GASPUMPV7 final.skp

Hehe, I just got one myself. Maybe I've gotten them before and never noticed since it pops up in the web browser. I think I've just closed the window, assuming it was telling me my bug was successfully reported. [image: c6k5_fixed.jpg]

Thanks for that Jeff. I have downloaded the weld plugin but I don't seem to be able to weld the segments of the lines together for some reason. I did separate the lines into parallel and horizontal sets and exported the two sets into my CAM software. I joined the vectors in both sets and will have a go at routing them and let you know the outcome. Thanks again for you help.

@jerrymich said: I am wanting to extrude (follow me) a cylinder to a sloped wall and wondering how to get the cylinder to project to the sloped surface and not go through the sloped surface. there are a few ways to go about this but for starters, try something like this.. extrude the cylinder far enough for it to go through the surface. select both the cylinder and the slope right-click and choose 'intersect faces -> with selection" then delete the unwanted parts.

Temporarily assigning axes to the angled parts will help in locking axial move processes. Select the parts you want to move and move then to where you want them. Using shift to lock to axes [including temporary axes settings] will help. A few more guidelines to lock move direction to and snaps will also help. Because you have structured you model in a certain way you will need to edit the parts in turn. For some of it... after you have made the changes to the 'walkway', it might be quicker to delete the 'wrong' railings and simply remake them from other already correctly made assemblies...
