@frederik said: I wonder if Jason Maranto decided to upgrade or just leave it... I haven't changed my POV -- I still have 8 Pro and use it occasionally, but I will not pay for any more SketchUp until there is something released which is worth paying for. That said, since nothing is new with me, and I've already said my bit on the SketchUp 9 subject, I've refrained from posting until such a time as new news is forthcoming from Trimble. In the meantime I've been focusing on other software. Best, Jason.

I drive drunk all the time but have never crashed, therefore proving that drunk driving is not only ok it is in fact safer than driving sober. People that do crash while driving drunk must have done something to their cars to make them faulty.

@hieru said: Kaas, I think you would still get good results using your approach if you further reduced the number of circle and bevel segments. The trick here is to use just enough segments and make sure that the block doesn't intersect with the tube along segment edges. Hieru, Thanks for your reply and the trick you mention. I'm going to test it soon.

You could fix it if you have to, and sometimes you do. You could run Intersect Faces>With Model to intersect the component and group with the rectangle on the ground and then delete the stuff under the component and group. If you want any sort of efficiency when you are drawing you should work on consistency in the way you work. The Push/Pull thing is a good example. Staying on top of reversed faces is another. Another thing in your example: why is one of the things a group while the other is a component. They probably ought to both be groups or both components but not one of each. You need to learn and use good habits as with anything else in life. And the only way to do that is practice. It will come, though.

Good knees are hard to find these days, Pilou. and finding four that are T-shaped and the right size even harder.

i installed a new drive in my laptop yesterday and spent today getting everything up and running.. anyway, i had this same 'problem' (with su8) finally figured out what it was after the 4th launch.. it's just that i still had the sketchup splash screen set to show upon launch which sort of makes it seem as if the license info wasn't remembered.. even though it was. doh!

"Permission denied" looks like a permissions problem. Have you edited the Plugins folders permissions to allow all users full access?

Have you tried repair/reinstalling it? Perhaps its importer file is bust and needs a repair? Have you tried saving the DWG as an earlier version - perhaps r2004 [i.e. in AutoCAD] ? OR if all else fails perhaps save it as an earlier version DXF... then install/use one of the several free DXF importer tools available to use with 'Free' -

Thanks Tig, it was as you say, selected. I usually work to 1/4" for architectural but 1/64" when the model is a plane or car. I still find at times that the line would be somewhat different from my input length so it is still not right by any means but I understand nothing is perfect under any sun.

If you got a bunch of them to do maybe you want to try a different tack. Use the Rectangle tool to draw a large face that is coplanar with your flattened geometry. Make the face larger than the map. Select it all and use Intersect Faces>With Selection. Then delete what you don't need. If the map is all flat, the faces should remain filled.
