Thank you guys! I ended up going the Shape Bender route. I'm going to mess around with Curvishear just to see how that works as well.

@pbacot said: Look at the possibility of using a transparent png texture as well. Would love to see what you come up with! Pbacot gives you a good suggestion you may also try transparent PNG textures also.

But rest assured that this might have nothing to do with the "Dynamics of the component" glued components (and also groups) are created automatically if you draw a closed shape on a surface, without intersecting it's borders and group it or make a component out of it. If you take a moment to look at the component parameters of the "Make Component..." table you'll see it is auto defined as "Glue to Any face"

I know this is a bit of an old post, but we at Twilight Render wanted to let you know that after a lot of hard work we are bringing satellite and terrain back to SketchUp Make through Twilight Render Pro and the Terrain Tools AddOn package. We've posted more about it here https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80%26amp;t=68220 or you can visit our website announcement here: https://www.twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10%26amp;t=5861 We hope this provides a useful workflow for all SketchUp users who have been missing their terrain since May!

Re: SketchUp Warehouse Postby Aerilius » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:04 am Hi, have a look at this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=74deeae241b00f82%26amp;hl=en In general, the purpose of 3d warehouse is sharing and the ToS imply that what you want to do is allowed. For a detailed and correct interpretation of the Terms of Service, you would need an attorney. Best is always to ask each modeler to be sure if he is ok with redistribution (you can contact the owner by clicking on the model page on the envelope icon next to the author's name). 0 Aerilius PluginStore Author PluginStore Author

I didn't see that, thanks Marcus. Colors and textures seem fairly straight forward. There is a color hierarchy similar to SketchUp where Face (amf triangle) color over-rides Group/Component (amf Volume or object) color. In amf, vertices may also have a color although I am not sure how that might be represented in SketchUp.

@jim said: I didn't bother with the "bottom only" option, but this should work…. Hope this helps. Awesome!! Thanks!!!!! DC's are little more involved than what I can handle at this time. I am trying to get my component collection so I can spend more time designing and less time in "busy stuff". Doors, and Millwork are my next try…

@jim said: The Axes can be fixed using this: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30508 Thanks a lot for this great advice. My headache has been cured finally . I hope this is an evergreen feeling and I wont run into this section cut zoom problem again. And thanks everyone for the advice. I also need an autocad to sketchup workflow tips and tricks so that such headaches and others can be prevented. Is there a complete guide available from autocad to sketchup?

Solved the problem: After a while I nearly gave up on fixing the problem. But now I have found the solution. It was not a driver isue as I first thought. After deleting all the drivers and plugging in a generic computer mouse, sketchup would still not zoom when scrolling. So my next step was to question windows 8.1 and I quickly came to the answer: When you install a program that makes it possible to scroll on inactive windows (in my case: katmouse) it can cause this kind of problem. Just thought it was worth sharing.

Well, I've found a solution (hopefully). It's the one I was hoping to avoid. Tomorrow I will receive a new SSD from Amazon, a Samsung 850 Pro 256GB. I'm hoping that installing everything from scratch will make everything all better. I just can't understand why my backup computer and my laptop, neither of which have the 2015 update installed, have not experienced any problems. Anyhow, tomorrow the fun begins . I'll post the results here on the off-chance that anybody cares

It seems you are drawing on geometry that is on a hidden layer and in the same (editing/drawing) context. If the geometry were grouped and not in the current drawing context, then you wouldn't get this message. SketchUp separates geometry when grouping it, not like in other programs by different layers. You may also see a similar warning when drawing over geometry that is hidden but still in the same context, not separated by a group.

To Massimo, Thanks, it works perfectly all these years later. I took a while to find this approach. May I ask why it works, and/or how you discovered it? Ed
