      Hi,

It has been a while since I posted, so I'm hoping this is the right section.

I work for a company that uses SketchUp for the thermal analysis of buildings. Regulations now require us to evaluate heat lost through junctions between elements.

For example external corners of a building, or where a window joins a wall. The attached PDF shows some useful diagrams.

The current approach is to make a simple sketchup model of the building, then try to motivate a graduate to measure and record all the lengths associated with these junctions. This can takes hours if not days, a frustrating process as the computer already has the inputs!

So this prompts the question, could this be done automatically with a plugin / algorithm?

My coding experience is limited, but it would be great to get an estimate for the number of person-hours the programming work would take.

If anyone is looking for development work, please get in touch. This plugin would be very valuable to our company and many others.

      Thanks

      Ross

An old topic I know, but did you ever find a plugin for this?

Hi. The "Solid volume" is very useful in my job, thanks a lot! A great add to it would be a mass calculator. Just an input for material density and the solid mass would be seen; or a even better if a tiny sheet to save some own densities. I have not found any plugins for easy mass reporting. Cheers!

"SUSolid.com" plugin works great for weights. You can input any materials you like.

On the lookout for a plugin that can export AutoCAD 2D orthographic elevations of sketchup components. I do a lot of stone detailing and being able to select a component and generate 2D views quickly would be a Godsend for me. Anyone any suggestions, happy for it to be a paid app. Cheers guys.

    • RE: Resizing jpeg image problem

There is a simple way to do this. In your example you need the scale factor for the new size. So that would be 350/378 which equals 0.9259. So grab a corner of the selected image and start dragging it. let go of the mouse and type 0.9259 and hit Enter.

Hi Dave, I was worried that this was the only solution. I have a large volume of varying sized images and working out the scale factor for all of them will be time consuming. Its a shame that Layout doesnt have a resize option similar to the tape measure in SU.
      Cheers anyway!

    • Resizing jpeg image problem

      Hi,
I dont use Layout very often anymore so sometimes I come across little problems that may have easy solutions!
I need to somehow quickly resize jpegs that I bring into layout so that they will have an accurate scale, BUT there doesnt seem to be a properties box when you click a jpeg (which would be super easy!)
      Anyway heres an example:
My inserted jpeg is 378 units high, I need it to be 350 units high, is there a quick way to resize the image or do I have to scale it manually with the grips which isnt accurate enough? I am sure I am missing something simple!

      And Twinmotion ?

Too many bugs, and no where near the quality of Lumion unfortunately.

I've been an avid user of Lumion and appear on their Showcase Page as Chumleys Art. It's a great programme. See what I produce at https://vimeo.com/user45590453.

My issue is that as I use Lumion Version 7, to pay for another upgrade so soon is quite an expense - just below Β£1000. Unfortunately, SketchUp 2018 models cannot be loaded into Lumion Version 7 now. I have to build in SU2018 and save a copy to the 2017 version.

Will SketchUp address the transfer issue or will I eventually be forced to go to Lumion 8? I think I'm caught between a rock and a hard place.... πŸ˜•

I missed version 7 out completely as I felt there was nothing in that version worth the upgrade from v6. Now I have finally got around to getting version 8 and so far it is very impressive. Like you say though the upgrade price is expensive so I cannot justify the cost every single year.

Will not accept my license code. How do I get the new one? My maintenance fee was paid in June.

I received my new serial direct from my reseller this afternoon. I suspect you will get the same email at some point over the next 24hrs.
