Can't figure out why Follow-Me doesn't work with this. I Welded the coil, the weld worked so there is no break or stray lines to prevent the follow-me from working, but keeps giving me a 'This does not appear to be a valid path' error msg. I've attached the .skp file. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be that you have too many segments in the path. Perhaps if you break it at the mid point then do a scale -1 it will work.
I can't look at your model just now.

Do not pre-select curve and the ask the face to sweep.

Call the tool, pick the face and then curve...

            Thanks, Rich!!

Took me a while to figure out just what you meant, but finally got it to work. I have never had to do this before, is there a particular reason why this model needs to be done this way?

The followme tool is getting grouchy in its old age. So when you tell it to go somewhere it won't.

You need to hold its hand.

There's probably a technical reason. My one makes more sense.

I don't know why it does it. I just know to use the other method when it does decide to have a brain fart.

Segments. There is always a limit to the number of segments Sketchup can deal with. There is also an unfortunate lack of good error messages built into sketchup.
10000 segments of a single continuous 'curve' will tend to crash sketchup without a bugsplat.
Your question appears to show that 6000 segments is the limit on a follow me before it gives you an error that is somewhat meaningless.

Thanks for going to all the trouble, some very useful information for myself and probably others. Very much appreciated πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

And you're right about the 'somewhat meaningless' error messages. It might as well have said 'This ain't gonna work, but we're not gonna tell you why'
