Are you talking about profile lines? Could you post a screen shot?

...or start your line and when you see the red inference, press the Shift key to lock the line on axis. Now you will be able to use any other inference (say the endpoint of a parallel line) but keep staying on the red axis. This also works with other tools (such as the Move tool for instance).

Eport a PDF or EPS file from File>Export>2D Graphic. Illustrator can open a PDF file, and the EPS file is identical in content. When you open a SU-generated PDF or EPS in Illustrator, the image is combined into a single entity. I have found that right-clicking on it and selecting "release compound path" will let the individual objects to be edited. I am not an Illustrator expert, so the exact terminology escapes me. Note that the PDF or EPS export has no textures or shadows. Printing a SU model to PDF with a PDF printer driver like Adobe Acrobat generally produces a raster image file. Anssi

The image I provided here is very simple. The one's I am really interested in are of French chairs. The Thonet rocker is a classic, but I was working on a simpler "cafe" chair. It has curved braces and other things that join immediately below the seat. So, somewhere in the process of making the parts, I got something out of line by a fraction of a degree. I tried: Looking at the whole thing from the front view in parallel projection. Creating a huge rectangular block that aligned with the center and "pushing" it through the contents I had already made. I then used "intersect with model to create edges. After erasing all of the excess, I mirrored the "half chair" and "moved" everything back together. I am getting better at this, but the parts are so close I would think they would snap together. Thanks, John D

Thanks for the tips! I have tried different formats with simple model and so far I have been able to import 3ds- and obj-formats quite ok. It seems that 3ds are at least the doubble the size when I export them from Sketchup. Now the biggest obj-file that I have been able to import to Blender has been around 10 MB. With bigger files I always get memory problems. Have you also tried to import Collada-format? In Blenderartist Forum some people have had some success with Collada. Anyway, at least I know that I can import part of my models, so maybe it is time to start learning Blender too. Anyway, I have feeling that Blender will never replace Sketchup in my workflow but for simple animations it could be something. If you still run some import test please share the results.

I'm currently having the same problem, has anyone seen a fix for this? I've spent a few hours just troubleshooting but no solution in sight.

I tried an Install/repair to no avail So I have completed an Uninstall/Reboot/Install and that has fixed the problem. Just would have liked to have found out what was going on. Lets just say "WinDoze" Dave

I used a method similar to Remus but with ctrl+erase between steps so that clean up is quicker and easier. Have a look at the attached file. [image: 9kSK_Twistedcollumn.jpg] Twisted collumn.skp

Glad to be of service. You can snap enpoints to midpoints and midpoints to end points too.

not long time in country. Sorry. With a sphere. Turn on hidden geometry. Select the whole spherE. center point is readily visible with hidden geomtery. Click with the move tool on said centre point and proceed as I explainde above. If the center point of the sphere is on the wrong axis for your placement requirements, there are a number of ways to proceed but one way is to rotate the sphere from it's center point 90 degrees and then continue as above

Al, That would be great. Our existing libraries, as I have said are outlined carefully and sparesly in a low poly fashion. Would your script work with the existing low poly outline together with the high poly version or would your script require that the low poly version is just the image file? I would really want to be able to offer both the low poly outlined version as well as the high poly. Perhaps 3 layers?

G'day Sweet glad that helped, sorry about that, as i said at 5am not the sharpest knife in the block you can use trapezoid shapes , just make sure that your line tool is inferenced in the direction you are taking the line blue = up/down red left/right etc. colour by axis helps a lot, lots of little tricks like that on the boards. Two cents worth from a SketchUp newbie. It depends on what you really need to do, but it seems you can do 2D in SU quite well. I'm a dyed in the wool Paint Shop Pro person. (2D from Corel, and you can download a trial from corel.com.) However -- and it's a big one -- the older versions such as 7.04 and 9 are much better if Ebay or some other entity has them. You might check my little offerings of exteriors on http://marlisepsp.tripod.com/ and fabulous interiors at http://www.jaddell.com. BTW, PSP is much less expensive than Adobe Photoshop and there are plenty of tuts online. As for me, I'm going to be using both because it's so much faster and easier to do a 3D view from any angle in SU and then export it as a JPG to PSP for some extra cosmetics. --Marlise

hi sweetluge, did you have switched off the floor layer? if yes, I thinkt your line already exists, it is just made invisible. now you are trying to draw another line in the same place (SketchUp doesnt understand that, because it knows there already is a line). like the others said: the only way is to build groups/components - which you should use in any case in order to keep a model organised and structured
