    • Placement of plug ins

I purchased Smustard's Subsmooth and have attempted to install it on my Mac. Their instructions and the instructions within Sketchup are contradictory. I may also have moved some part of the download to some other location by mistake.

There are references to HD/library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 6/SketchUp/Plugins in their instructions.

I'd have to back into SkecthUp to get the exact wording that I see as contradictory, but it said something about
placing the file under " content."

Any ideas? I am not a programmer. my mac is run on OS X 10.4.11

      Thank you.

    • Cutting things in half is there a better way?

Sometimes I clean up overly complex forms by sliding a block through the "object." I then use Select all, and "Intersect with model" to create a new edge. I have been manually erasing all the excess material at the edge of the block.

Is there an efficient way of doing this?

I would love a tool that highlights any line shorter than a specified length. It would make this part a lot easier.

      Thanks for any suggestions,
      John D

    • RE: How do I get exporters?

Two things seem out of wack here.

Yes, I have a license printed out with serial number and key and expiration date etc. i got that through my schools email.

I do not see any opportunity to enter it manually or to "paste" it in as the instructions indicate.

I am on a Mac, and there are also instructions ( I think for windows) saying I should "run as an administrator." I do not see that option.

Am I supposed to pay for the exporters separately? On the help screens I did see some connected sites that dealt with things like 3D PDF files...

EPS, or PDF are my goals.

      Thanks,

      John D

    • How do I get exporters?

Although some of you have indicated that I can export in PDF and open the vector image by right clicking, I don't see that in the menu. I also do not understand the "Get Pro Exporter" command. I see a list with things "x'd" and not "x'd." But I don't see the process. My interest is moving to vector as efficiently as possible.

Moving through TIFF, I can get the jagged line minimized from he coarse resolution, but it is not efficient.

      Thanks.

    • RE: Alignment of mirrored parts

The image I provided here is very simple. The one's I am really interested in are of French chairs. The Thonet rocker is a classic, but I was working on a simpler "cafe" chair. It has curved braces and other things that join immediately below the seat.

So, somewhere in the process of making the parts, I got something out of line by a fraction of a degree.

I tried: Looking at the whole thing from the front view in parallel projection.

Creating a huge rectangular block that aligned with the center and "pushing" it through the contents I had already made.

I then used "intersect with model to create edges. After erasing all of the excess, I mirrored the "half chair" and "moved" everything back together.

I am getting better at this, but the parts are so close I would think they would snap together.

      Thanks,

      John D

    • Exporting to IIlustrator / student license

I purchased a student license to develop forms that are made into charcoal drawings after much revision and cleaning up.

Should I be able to export to Illustrator in vector mode? I have been able to make PDF files that can be scaled...but that is as close as I get.

    • Alignment of mirrored parts

sample misal2.skpI wrote earlier about problems aligning two mirrored parts. I finally figured out that it was useful to have both the default style and the single pixel styles available. This allows me to switch to single pixel when I am close to alignment... and then finish the job in the single pixel style.

Nevertheless, I still end up out of line.

Attached, I hope, is an image of a simplified "cardboard lips" form... two arcs coming back together... that are not quite lined up. If I am successful in attaching two files, I will send another successful version and the much more complex object I have been trying to complete.

      Thanks,

      John D.

Maybe? is there a way of adjusting sensitivity at the last moment? In " Preferences" could I switch to some setting where any line within four pixels gets "joined?"

    • Forcing geometry onto a specific axis

I have been frustrated by the stickiness of things when I try to make a simple new form in a plane other than the ones on an existing element. Particularly if I want to quickly build a "round" form by drawing half a circle and following that form along an arc. I have started putting a cube in my drawings just to throw it away after aligning things with its faces.

Is there a key to force things into (say) the red/blue plane?

      Thanks,

    • Splitting down the middle and re-gluing

I have been attempting to make several symmetrical objects. I have done work and then tried to establish a gluing plane by intersecting the work with a large rectangular block... and cutting away everything I don't need.

I use the move key to make a second copy and the scale tool set to minus 1 to reverse the object. I then slide everything back together and make it a group as best I can. Should not things that are put right next to each other lock onto their counterpart? Can I work on the boundary between the two "components" or "groups" without having to "explode?"

It seems like things get out of line hours later when I discover there are two lines in some places.

      Thanks for any suggestions.
