Try the vray two-sided material. There's a tutorial about it too (floating around somewhere)
Simple steps: 1.make your curtain material - (it should be opaque, but if you want it sheer, you can use translucency and maybe a texture map)
    2. create a vray two-sided material (from the vray materials window - and make sure it's NOT the SKP two sided), set both front and back materials to your curtain material, check the box for force one-sided, and set your color to a light gray)
    3. apply your material to your curtain. (I also apply the original material to an edge to make sure my material doesn't get purged.)

you maybe can try to take a look at camera settings that control the exposure..
The GI light intensity as well also effect the brightness of the scene.

V-ray really is not a simple rendering engine. I would say that if you can get through the PDFs I posted and all the YouTube videos that Chaos has posted, you will be in good shape. Up.

where are the pdfs that you've posted.?? ..link please. Im mostly interested in lighting, coz that's the chief thing in renders, materials i know and r easy 2 setup πŸ˜‰

SU uses only 1 core at any time - so that should not be an issue.

i meant that SU and the vray renderer use the same thread ID. so the windows method of limiting cores won't do anything, if i want more perfomance for modeling in SU while rendering.

f.ex: i set max cores to 3 of 4 for the SU cpu thread -> vray uses all 3 cores, SU can't use any.

I some times use the override materials option on my entire model, apart from on the materials I am wishing to render where i untick 'effected by override material' within the material editor. if its an interior scene remember to have any glass also unticked otherwise you will end up with no natural light coming in

It's been discussed a lot. Chaos Group says after they release Vray for Rhino update, then they will focus on rolling out Vray for SketchUp with all the improvements from the Vray for Rhino update. Rumor is an RT window, proxies, DR Spawner that works, etc.

With decay set to inverse sqaure, you will need a much higher value than 5. I set my Units to Radiant power (W) and use a value between 100-300 depending on the scene. Also, I would not use pure white as your color. In reality lighting gives off either cool or warm tones depending on the type of fixture. I like to set my omnis to a very light warm yellow/orange.

My workaround for this is to do the copying and pasting with the vray plugin disabled. (actually, I just do my copy and paste on another machine instead of the one I have vray on.)

Yeah, the reflection layer will do that (reflect the environment)

Yea - 1.49.02 is unsupported - because it's a pirated version. ChaosGroup is a advertiser on this forum and many here work closely with them - there is no way anyone will answer this. Nor will I allow it. To get support, buy it.

Thanks everyone. I don't know what the problem was, but I restarted Sketchup and it worked fine after that. So thanks again for all the kind help.

@Thomthom; No problem, I know I was asking for alot. And without trying to come off as too rude, would you mind sharing your vray settings for the floorplan? Mine turns out either too bright or too dark, but that might be the problem of the floor plan itself. It's rather large (office building) and I'm not working with any extra light besides the Vray sun and GI. Would you recommend adding extra (a.i.) lighting?

EDIT: Just watched the video, I guess that answered all my questions, thanks!

I appear to have solved it by asking VRay to tile the bitmap.

You just change the sun in Sketchup, the vray sun takes into account the color of the sky at different parts of the day. You may need to adjust your camera exposure for morning or evening light or your render may come out too dark.

With 64 bit you will be able access to more memory, so you will be able to render higher resolution images and higher poly models. i7 processors are multithreaded and Windows will see 8 cores, so Vray see's 8 cores and you will get 8 render buckets. I found that my i7 renders at least twice as fast if not more than my last workstation which was a high end Xeon. I cant imagine that SU will be slower in a 64 bit environment. I was using 32 bit Photoshop for the longest time and when I went to 64 bit it was night and day. Much faster and more responsive, even it its just an illusion because I access to more memory.
