I recently downloaded 2d Photographic plants uploaded by Adam hails .Brilliant brilliant stuff man. I moved them to my SU components folder [in the program files}. Now I want that whenever I use any of the components, their vray alpha transparency map gets attached to them automatically in any of the models in which they are used. So I added alpha maps using vray material editor in the original component file. But unfortunately when I use the plants in other sketchup model, I have to reattach the alpha map for each of them separately. Is there any way to edit the original component file in such a way that their alpha maps get attached to them forever.?

You know, you don't have to attach alpha maps for PNG files or other textures that are already transparent in the diffure. Just check the "Use color texture as transparency".

I think the V-Ray material is supposed to be saved with the model, so that copying or importing would also import the material. But I have a suspicion that there is a bug about, as I have myself had mixed results.

            Best to contact ChaosGroup support.

Definitely an issue with copying and pasting if that's what you are trying to do. pretty consistently, vray will forget any material layers and mapping from one file to the other. My workaround for this is to do the copying and pasting with the vray plugin disabled. (actually, I just do my copy and paste on another machine instead of the one I have vray on.)

I think that's what I've had problems with as well. When VfS is loaded it seems that copy and paste material or components goes fubar. Not 100% sure. But might be worth trying with it disabled.

I've in any case set VfS to not load with SU - only to load on demand when I need to render. (Using my V-Ray Toys plugin.)

That copy/paste problem is one of the reasons that i always save my vismats. An easy way to reload them in another SU files. πŸ˜‰
