did you make sure the specular map is in the perpendicular slot of your fresnel reflection options? If it is in that location, then glossiness will be affected.

If you are copying and pasting between SU windows or loading components, that will often mess up materials (delete all the layers except diffuse) when working in vray. That is a bug currently.

I know that Fernando uses a sphere with a mirror material to help align HDRI images, so maybe its in there for that too. I dont like the Vray sphere because it is pretty low poly. When I need a sphere I use the 3D Shapes Tool plug-in which can be found on SketchUcation.

Here's how I would approach it.

model the entire lamp profile and create the object as a revolved shape. the shade should be a simple single plane so you can apply a 2-sided material
3.Go to the Chaos Group youTube page and watch the video on 2-sided material setup. I would use a copper metal material with a noise displacement map to get that hand crafted effect. This may take some time to figure out.

I get this issue all the time with displacement. Sometimes it takes hours to get the thing to start cranking along.

OK! Just switching to the physical camera was enough for now. Thank you!

It's your reflection glossiness setting. I assume you loaded this floor material from a preset vismat your may have downloaded. You want to go to the material editor and for the floor material, change the glossiness setting to 1.0 for very sharp refelctions or use something like .9 for a slight blur which is more realistic. Remember that if you use a number less than 1, that you need to adjust you subdivs, the higher the better but the longer the render times. I use 18-22 for high quality stuff.

You can take a vismat glassmaterial from chaos group. First you have to download some materials :
    http://www.vray.com/free_vray_tools/vismat_material_collection/

Load it in the material editor and apply material to selection.
Play with the reflection (set:1) and reflecion glossiness (0,85). This will work.

    Succes

I was differently, QMC isntead of DMC. But both where slow. It might be required in come cases where higher accuracy is required.

    Thanks Dingobruce !!!
Your solution seems to work πŸ˜„
The only problem is it increases the rendering time a lot... But that's anyway better than when I used VRay lights to make the LEDs dots πŸ˜„

Thanks for your help, and have a very good day.
    Cheers mate.

Yep - that one is pretty much the one in the manual...

And none of the documentation is for OSX - not that that really matters, but there may be something I'm missing.

    hello guys,
it's me again. I have a small problem with v-ray glass material. I used material with settings described in this blog http://sketchupvrayresources.blogspot.com/2011/07/vray-sketchup-glass-material.html but there is my result. Glass doesn't have the green color.
    Best regards,
    Marcell

    Just to add,

use AO (ambient occlusion) switched on in Indirect Illumination, this will add some "dirt" to the edges where they meet other objects

make a dirt material, this will do something similar, is deeper controllable an will only show up on these certain material (it's a little tricky but maybe good for your brick wall)

    Good luck

btw: it's more controllable if you add your lines or layer in a photo editing software

You should check to make sure the material on the ground is applied to the outside (white) face of the plane. I believe if it is applied to the back face it messes up Vray in some instances.

    Note the Blue 'reversed' face

Note the reflection in the metal chrome material

I wouldnt turn the preview off. I have found issues with this. Just set it to have the preview on, that way you can see the progress.

Layer visibility during batch rendering is supported, so if you set up a key frame animation using a third party plugin, you then have the ability to animate moving components. Batch rendering was not set up with this in mind, but if you can get the work flow figured out, I'm sure its possible.

Recognizing layer visibility in animation is on the list, and may be a possibility in the future, but that means re-parcing a scene for ever frame. That adds a lot of time with larger animated models.
