Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Not textures, no. Only Face Me components. Though render engines like V-Ray has such features.

Thanks again Guys. I applied a texture to the back of a face in the component where it is never seen, saved the component with the rest of the faces using the default material and now when I import it the material comes with it. If I now change the colour using Component options it works (although the hidden face always stays as the texture I applied directly to it). However I am still confused, because when I import the component it comes in showing the default material until I drop it in the model when it changes to the texture specified in the component options. With the original models I did (second sample above) they come in showing the texture specified correctly and they work perfectly when using the component options - AND - there are no hidden textures in them. Also - with the original models, if I change the colour in component options then re-save the component, when I then import that into a new model it comes in the correct colour and brings that texture with it (the original texture is gone, as expected) - but I did not place any hidden textures in the component before saving it. Very strange - but at least for the time being I have a solution (until I can work out what I may have done differently the in the original models).

You mention PC but not mfg. My Dell XPS still does not have "updated driver" but settings in link below will resolve the scramble if you are on similar system. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18218 Best, C

I think I figured it out. When I imported my CAD drawing the file in CAD was extremely far from the origin. I did not take this into consideration when I imported the drawing into sketchup (didn't know I would have to). So in my component (that I did not explode after importing) had the CAD UCS extremely far away making my component HUGE. I fixed this issue and, thus, fixed the clipping bug. Thanks for your help!

There is a "Custom Toolbars" plugin by Jim Foltz: http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2008/06/custom-toolbars-release-08-06-01.html Read the instructions he provides on the plugin page. A bit of a hassle to set it up at first but then you don't have to worry about them any more.

Select more than one component at a time, and then right click and choose "Make Unique". It will make all selected become a new unique component. Of course this only works when you have selected only intances of the same component. Chris

Here is what I can see in GE [image: UZXe_Windfarm.png] and in SU - after importing, cleaning up a bit and softening edges [image: dme5_WindfarmSU.png] There is only one row of them however in SU - they are probably "multiplied" somehow in GE [image: DQTC_group.png]

There is a topic about Arroway textures here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=25434 They are extremely nice textures - true however that this free set is not very high resolution - but at least they cover a substantial area and do not tile that much.

Also watch Chris Fullmer at the first quarter of this video. He is presenting how to use these different styles during his workflow with extensive models. Actually, I'm on the Beta team, so I've gone through that channel. I only have Sticky Keys enabled under UA. But turning off 'Enable Access for Assistive Devices' seems to do the trick. I think. Trouble is, that messes up my window switcher, 'witch' relies on that function to work. And I use it a lot.

@tig said: @haynesc said: hi all is there a way to create a shortcut to deselect and close all open groups and components ? i know you can select the model from the outliner dialog ... is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut for this or a little ruby? thanks First you need to be editing a group/component. Next you open Window > Preferences and click on Shortcuts Now in the filter window type close. You should see Edit/Close Group/Component. Select it and add you preferred shortcut to it - I use Alt+B. From now on pressing Alt+B will close the current edit session - if you are nested into edit a number of levels then repeat the key until you are back at the Model level... To assign a shortcut that is context specific first get that context, then filter to find it - e.g. hiding the rest of the model toggle on/off when editing is also very quick and useful as a shortcut... or you can select a face and then Reverse or Orient become available for shortcutting - these are both useful too... thanks thats what i need ... i used Alt+Q (Q for Quit)

@squarewhite said: Is there any plugins or extension that allows sketchup users to set a folder as the place where sketchup is supposed to save your skb files ? I find annoying to have so many files in my folders. For Autocad users, i suppose that i´m nostalgic from the MOVEBAK command line. It will always make the SKBs in the Model's folder. You can switch off backup making in Preferences. If you do that but want to still have some comfort that your precious concepts are safe from crashes etc then as well as making regular saves find my Archiver.rb script [ http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=149749#p149749 ] - this loads Archiver into the File menu - you can easily shortcut key to it, so then pressing a key before you make any major changes will make a silent backup into a folder called Archives - the Archive file is named as the model_name[yy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss].skp so you can readily work out which one is which. Unlike SBDs earlier versions are not overwritten and they can also open directly in SUp if desired. Also the Archive is a snap shot of your model as it was at the exact moment you make the Archive - not the last 'saved' version - unlike an SKB which is always the previous saved version. There are also some other useful Archive tools added to the File menu - one opens the 'Archive Folder' and another is an 'Archive Option' - this makes an Archive of the model as it stands that second and then lets you save a version of it as model_name[Option_1].skp and carry on working on it with perhaps alternative ideas, without loss of the original scheme... Archiver isn't for everyone, but some find it suits their workflow much better that SKBs or even save_as'ing...

@meezo said: when you right click for creating a component, in front of the make component there is a letter G. What is the key to use with the G? None. You just press G. If you need to use more modifier keys it'll say. You define you own hotkeys under Preferences->Shortcuts.
