BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

haha duh on my part (was equating "i" to inches as "m" to meters) Hmm, this sets the actual size of the object. I was looking for an additive distance. So typing in 256" on a 512x512 object will make it 512x768. Instead it makes it 512x256. Actually, Fredo6's Scale shows unit measurements in a tooltip manner, so it's closer to a solution! http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=17948

Hi, another option is, if you are exporting this as a 2d hlr, to create a style that renders edges by material, instead of the default "all same", and then turn on "color by layer". Sketchup will preserve line colors when exporting, and then, in your cad program, use a filter to select lines based on their color, and move them to the desired layer. Cheers santiago

I also discovered that if I then choose to edit the photomatch from the SketchOver dialog window, I can right click and choose "Cancel Photomatch", and that will erase the photomatch, but leave the camera in the correct position. So then I just created a new scene right there, and it worked just how I wanted. After much work. Chris

Oops, you are right - I did not go that far when trying. However if youwant it to stretch all across your SU window, why are you choosing the positioned and not the "stretched" option? True however that it may not solve the bad quality problem. Maybe it is even better to only add a watermark that is somewhat similar in size to your SU window? I always work on a window whose working area is exactly 1024x768 and therefore my exports are the same (or I also have a 16:9 aspect ratio window setting, too). So now as I inserted an image I exported the other day at 1024x768, it perfectly fits my window and looks pretty nice (I mean not bad quality and such). Not as if I was going to work in a crypt however... [image: jnyn_Watermark.jpg] (BTW my dialog looks different from yours - how is that?)

Yes , this is what I think Toffler meant ... the frivolous is taken up first and quickly. Unfortunately it seems to me nowadays pursuit of the seriously useful is forever being pushed back. @unknownuser said: ... Buildings being built ... Yes I very much like the idea of animating in Sketchup rather than making videos, simply because it can react to actual events or mind changes.

You can obtain a fairly quick and basic effect by using gradient transparency pngs in front of the camera as here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=23368&p=198149#p198149

I am not aware of anything older. If you can think of what it was, I'd be interested in seeing it. As far as I know, these are ground breaking plugins listed (and only scratching the surface of possiblities!).

Sketchup does not subdivide the texture deliberately, it is only not capable to align the texture. The only ways of texturing organic shapes in Sketchup is using projected texture (native), or using spherical or cylindrical projection (plugin UVTools 0.1). There are also other ways of texturing, like this workaround or using another programm for uv-mapping (plugin UVTools 0.2)

@sercrojoe said: Edit: By changing certain groups' or components' Entity Info, I've been able to change their layers (apparently), but for some of them it just won't work. Why is that? Well, that's the easiest way and actually "the" way normally. You can also use the Layers toolbar but the results will probably be the same. If you have any issues ("some of them not working..."), double check if the content is on some different layer than Layer0. "Primitive" or "raw" (i.e. ungrouped) geometry should never go elsewhere. There may still be nested groups/components on all different layers within your groups/components - check that, too. Eventually copy the troublesome groups and paste them in a new file. Have a look what layers they have "inherited" to get some clue what may be wrong with the original file and/or ultimately upload such faulty pieces here so we can have a look.

Well, that's it, I haven't (had the problem). I was primarily interested in the thread, because this was an apple issue that I was interested in seeing the outcome of what happened. However, like you guys, the assistive option checkbox was ticked on my computer.

It is a handy thing sometimes as you can easily drag and drop materials from one window to the other (say when you have just made a new material of an imported image from scratch and want to keep it in one of your libraries)

Yeah I noticed the xml file for kerk was 131MB where as the 3ds was 59MB, the original SU file was 32MB. Its obvious different formats and exporters triangulate the model differently.

OR move everything above the default ground plane (the x/y plane). But turning shadows on ground off is an easier solution of course.

How about giving one set a distinctive texture in addition to colour?
