    Hello,

I am making an intricate model of a piping system and I'd like to differentiate a group of objects to show the old system versus the planned additions. Since there are many colors of pipes already I cannot simply differentiate old and new by colors.

I am imagining the edges being drawn in a different color, or have some kind of a highlight function that outlines the edges of the object.

Maybe highlight is not a good word, but that's what I am looking for. I tried searching under many different search terms, but just keep finding basic intro tutorials that use 'highlight' instead of 'select'.

So if you know of the function or a plug in that can do this, please let me know!

    Thank you for the help!

You can have edges with colour if you turn it on under your current Style. In the edge sections you set the drop down ot Color By Material.

        Thomthom,

Thank you for responding. Your suggestion did not work because there are fittings and other components that are part of the pipe group that are in different colors/materials. So even though some edges would get recolored, this is not the effect I want. I am looking for something that would change the edges of all the items in a component irrespective of the colors of separate items.

If I misunderstood your instructions, can you explain in more detail? Thank you

Have you tried the 'colour by layer' option?

It would mean placing the old piping and new piping on separate layers then choosing the 'colour by layer' option in the 'layers dialog box'.

but this also color any attaching parts too

How about giving one set a distinctive texture in addition to colour?
