BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

My limited experience SU primitive geometry contributes as second order impact on processing speed: Usually its is the graphics processor and computational load of the image textures; I some times save model and use that, delete all materials and see what the speed a nd program size is; That at least gives you some idea of the problem facing you. The actions can be done: Model work in monochrome mode since it reduces the processing load; 2 Save the materials as a collection. That creates a skm file and since you can open in the windows explorer you will have an idea of which materials are causing the problem and take action to change size if possible, usually it seems a few are culprits. ( If you want to open change extension to zip and the you can open.; You gave no info on machine and sku version you have, but make sure the graphics card is set for operation when running SU. You can also particularize its setting for SU by using its control panel. My info on that is out of date but someone will have it for you. Can even give NVIDIA a call. Select the widows styles and deselect enable transparency because that make process load more, also it sees thru the material or set opacity also., use layers to minimize processing load and scenes to help with navigation. The new task manager ( came in about vista time frame? ) at bottom right corner has greatly expanded info ( resource monitor ) you can get, read its help, understand and then use that. It may point finger at problem area. Shut down all other threads running you can. Just some thoughts :smiley

New to Sketchucation and I cannot see how to raise a new post so I hope this presses the right buttons. I have recently added Sketchphysics to my SU. I've found some basic tutorials but I have hit a brick wall naming controllers. The box is blue and whenever I try and enter a name I get an error message. I have seen a post that talks of entering a name between the quotes but this did not work either. I'm trying to get on top of Sketchyphysics but so I can passs on the skills to my design students so a tad frustrated. Is there a good potted tutorial?

Hi TIG, thank you very much! I missed deleting the rb file and deleted only the plugin's folder and subfolder files. After deleting the rb everything is gone just like I wanted. The plugin was gkware stairmaker btw., sorry for not mentioning that, thought it wouldn't make a difference. Cheers Mikar

Sounds like a permissions issue to me ? The folder containing these assorted files... does it have FULL read/write permissions set up for all users etc in the Properties > Security > Edit dialog ? And of course, also check the equivalent permissions for all of these files too - they should inherit those from the folder's settings, but might not have ?

This sounds like an issue with your mouse, its drivers/settings, or your mouse technique, not with SketchUp per-se. That is, for some reason SketchUp is receiving multiple mouse input events when you press the button. Check what the system settings for the mouse are, they may be interfering with SketchUp. Can you borrow another mouse to see whether the problem is with the hardware? I don't know why you see this with newer versions but not with SketchUp 8 - perhaps they tuned up something in the GUI that used to drop almost-simultaneous mouse inputs...

you'd need to model the terrain (ie. the positions of corners as per surveying maps for your site location) correctly, set the solarnorth correctly w.r.t. the terrain then position your axis (x=0, y=0, z=0) is at can be used as reference for the actual geo-location that's how I would do it, very few project require this level of precision though, mostly just locate the model to a known location and set the solarnorth

@box said: Often the logitech drivers can be the problem. It can be better to run the mouse with the default win drivers. Hi Box Thanks for that, worth checking out.

This sounds like the component has the glue-to behavior set. Open the Components window, click the little house icon to see "In Model", select the component and then select edit in the component window. If you see Glue To set to anything except "None", you need to change this to eliminate the glueing behavior. Note: if you originally draw the component up against another face, this behavior is set automatically unless you unselect it in the create component dialog.
