    BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

    If you are still using Thea download their Licensed Materials from the Licensed Material Club. Or make you own the Material Lab in Thea.... [image: thea_2017-06-10_11-05-15.png] Use a Glossy material layer, add bump using procedural textures and tweak the scale. Also adds some anisotropy to get the proper reflections. [image: thea-render.png] Obviously this is not the best example render but a quick way to show how to use procedural textures in Thea. They wont render in Presto though but you can use Adaptive AMC with the GPU.

    I made a texture material from a photo of the stone wall & then applied it to the surface created by skinning the top and bottom lines.

    I HAVE HAD THIS ERROR FOR A LONG TIME AND ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY: I end up having to save the file manually and keep changing the name. Autosave does it and "Save" does it. I am not on a network, running as admin, saving to "documents/xxx. It started when I upgraded to Make 2017.

With SU2017, that is no longer an option. The rendering is done by the GPU. That means the GPU must be sufficient. Again, what graphics card? What driver version? There have also been many user reports of delays related to some files Microsoft pushed in automatic updates. Removing those fixed the problem. First, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date and that your graphics card can support OpenGL 3.0 or higher.

    Create rubbish? There are a few of my earliest models.... Seriously, it's going to be the textures that solve your problem. I did a model of a recycling metals company and I found some very useful (free) textures at textures.com. I suggest you check there.

    Thanks Fredo. Do you think it possible to technically achieve this? In particular, I'm interested in a workflow where all hard edges are rounded for a given object at once. Even better if it can be proxied, so one could continue working in the non-rounded version, then update the proxy. Blender has a great set of plugins called hard ops, which does this. This plugin is amazing, and I think this can be done even better in SU if there's a good enough fillet algorithm. https://youtu.be/MOr0RBraRaI

    I use the axis tool and align it with a wall corner on the plan. So, on the cabinet wall, I can take the tape measure tool and search for a corner of a cabinet door for a reference point from which to measure and it doesn't find a corner to reference. You didn't encounter this? Are you on a PC or Mac? I'm on a Mac Thank you!

    Indeed, the other constants are a little more depressing, so I rarely think of them, personally. I shall give it a miss until something (paid or not) appears - I'm always keen to adapt, but not at too much 'time cost', being self-employed and all. FYI Completely agree with your sig'.

    Just type... Sketchup.send_action 10624 ...into the Ruby Console to gain access to the Camera Clipping values If you zoom and pan in the viewport you can see how SketchUp adjusts this value range on the fly.
