BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

I removed and reloaded Sketchup. It still hangs and is horrendously slow to start up. Even before adding plugins. My Rhino and Autocad are much faster on this machine where SU hangs often. Could this be a problem with RYZEN and SU. Any suggestions?

@calypsoart said: I'm currently finding this to be correct as I do research. However, in the past it was easier to find FirePros cheaper than Radeons. FirePros were never cheaper than Radeons of comparable performance... besides maybe the last time because of the mining hype. @calypsoart said: ...I'm looking at the Quadro P1000 which draws 47w. I'll see if an equivalent GTX 10XX can be had for less. The GTX 1050Ti (TDP 75W covered by PCIe slot) is approx. 10% faster than a Quadro P1000 and available from MSI and Gigaybte as low-profile version (covering 2 slots) starting at roughly 175 bucks (P1000: ~340 bucks).

@pixero said: About the slowness I've read here somewhere before that it is because SU is using the inference engine all the time. I usually hide all edges on imported highres geometry which makes it a bit faster. Exactly. Note that if no drawing tool is selected (only a viewing tool like hand etc.), panning and zooming a complex model already gets MUCH faster. If edges are not shown at all, handling a complex model for me jumps from around 3 jerky fps to a completely smooth ~60fps.

I had the same problem and I was placing solar panels on a large roof space. Best way to find duplicates is to edit the component and make the face or shape colour and then change the opacity to half. any duplicates will then be staked and show on the model as darker. then you can simply delete the dark components.

I find that to be common too. Sometimes worse than others (the part about tools not dropping out for example). Also I notice many plugin operations hang for a long time after the action is complete on screen.

I like your light trick. One thing I have done, not wanting to push the render button (cause for me that is sometimes a rabbit hole of time)... for quick "sketches" model views to clients or builders. I take two different shadow version exports, overlay in GIMP, choose a transparency and with a layer mask, run a big fuzzy brush over some areas to change transparency. It can suggest light gradients and even reflection. If you want to geek out you can add ambient occlusion by another overlay or burn tool. I often add a favorite filter to enliven the colors. I think it's faster than adjusting textures. For example I will overlay an interior scene with shadows and one without. I choose setting in the shadow window for each to get the brightness settings I want. If I do it right the process is not technical or time consuming , just some quick adjustments and brush strokes for a better output. Now there's the Ambient Occlusion plug-in that may be a good quick fix for SU output.

I think I was trying something like this but did it wrong. It seems to work OK. Only thing is I would only uncheck style and fog, because I noticed that section cut settings are lost (and probably some other things if I uncheck everything but camera. Unfortunately if you are using different fog settings, they are probably all set to one setting in this process, since style and fog are combined. Thanks.

Looking at that Image I would simply delete the selection and make faces between what appears to be a radial array of beams.

Don't you just need to apply a suitable Lumion leaf material to the SU geometry? Your model should work - perhaps just intersect the groups and clean it up. Is this info relevant? [~5.15mins] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEecISrQVBg

Tip: I learned this from Nick Sonder video a couple of years back. You can quickly change scene properties in multiple scenes by selecting the scene with the properties you wish to have updated/changed and by either ctrl/shift click select more scenes and simply de-select and immediately re-select the properties you wish to update. Another thing you can do is the rename the .style to .zip and poke around to see the stroke styles. Best way to deconstruct is to load a style into StyleBuilder to see what setting were used where.
