You can re-link the texture either in the SU material editor or the vray one, either will work. The specific path will depend on where the texture file was originally.

@penumbra said: excellent, many thanks. You're welcome! @unknownuser said: Why have the refraction layer at all? For many render engines - "architectural glass" or "thin glass" gives you the same look when at the scale of a building, there is effectively no refraction. It's such a small volume of glass that it doesn't matter if you have refraction calculated or not.

Could you please show some settings and a test render? That would help solving your problem much quicker. Could you render with a domelight instead of the sun? Regards,

@valerostudio said: I have had this same issue in the past. Make sure there are no characters in your file name at all, even the folders. We had an "&" in our project name that VR did not like that at all. Now I also render all finals into a folder on my desktop to shorten any issues with folder structure as well. Thank you for your reply. Good to get this tips about bugs discovered by experience! About the Vray Frame Buffer I still think it is a bit rigid and something as useful as recovering a past file rendered in it should be possible. It is quite easy to loose work with how it works... I am curious, is there something in the 3ds max Frame Buffer that Vray could still learn from?

I've had similar issues with creating vray proxys. I've exported the vrmesh from 3ds max, imported into sketchup via vray, then apply textures to the proper materials. Then I save that SU file as "tree 1.skp" or whatever. I usually have no problem opening this file later and rendering - the textures/materials are still showing up. However, when I'm working in another scene and import that same SU file with the proxy, the textures will not consistently render. When I sample the materials of the proxy, the texture shows up in the SU material editor for about a second, then it disappears, it seems like the vray material editor which has lost the link to the texture overwrites the SU material - so it defaults to a solid color. Not sure that helps, I could be doing something wrong but in the end I need to place proxies without re texturing all the time. Chuck

If you're using a demo version, then yes there are limits to how many lights you can add.

You should do a search for VRay Studio setups. Check out this video, its based on VRAY for 3Ds but the concepts should work for VraySU as well. http://viscorbel.com/studio-lighting-setup/ Rob

@tuna1957 said: Dave, I'm going to sneak in here and try to help you out. First off Twilight won't render proper with the camera outside a wall that has a solid material on the front face and a transparent material on the back face. if memory serves Twilight only reads materials on front faces. Actually did a quick test, you only get a screen full of weirdness. If you have to render "looking through a wall" to get the scene set up you want. hide the wall or make it transparent both sides. Render with the sun disabled or light will pour in the open side. Use your interior lighting ( invisible emitter in ceiling or point lights ). position a plane outside your window and make that an emitter to give you light coming in the window. You can apply an appropriate image to the plane outside the window and then assign your light emitter properties to it. P.S. I think your getting the hard light and shadows in the image you posted because you have shadows enabled . Tuna, this is exactly the answer I was looking for. I have looked at the Twilight tutorials a bunch of times and never see anything like this. I will go work on it some more. I do not want to distract from this thread anymore so I will discuss it, if needed, on the Twilight forum. See you there......again, thanks very much.

Make it an emissive material would be the best way in VRay. I always put these items in post though.

save your rendered in VFB history, klik on the icon "H" (at right bottom VFB), VFB history window will appear, then klik on the save icon. when you open sketchup again and open VFB history your file still in there and can be reload for region rendering.

In case there is still someone wondering about this, I have experienced LC freezing while trying to render a scene using caustics. I would recommend to turn on caustics just if you are completely certain about its settings. An error in the caustics settings can blow up your LC. I have also experienced freezing of the LC when the network supporting a DR is not properly set up. Specifically, slaves not having access to resources in the model. I solved it by getting a network with a server that contains all textures or proxies. So, appart from what said before me, also check caustics and DR settings.

Hello, In the VRay render options (global switches), you can choose to override materials with the color of your choice.

Skatter works great. You can choose whether you see the grass in SU (not preferable) or only show it when you render. So the viewport stays responsive. And rendering is quite quick as it uses proxies. I noticed that the pursing time for V-Ray takes some more time when using a lot of skatters. You can limit the skatter to only calculate what you see through the camera. You should really try it out and take some time to explore it. It is worth it IMHO. Regards,

Yes, I second the suggestion to drop in the proxy component when vray is not loaded. I've also run into crashes with vray when trying to bring in an already created proxy. The plugin is thomthom's "vray tools" - it keeps vray disabled until you need it.

First, I don't see a sun? Use the standard vray environment instead of an hdri to begin with. In your sketchup window make sure the sun/shadows are positioned like you want it to render. Also make your glass more transparent to let more light in (or even remove if you don't need reflections). This will brighten things up. If you succeeded please post the results. Regards,
