Probably the result of dividing by "almost zero". Which in turn could result from a floating point roundoff error.

If that works (and likely it does 'cause it's Adam talking,) can it be moved to the first post, retitled as a snippet topic, and comments inserted explaining WHY it works ?

Another question, I want to position an object by aligning one of its edges to the edge of another object. Infact, I have an imported Revit file, and multiple objects appear to be linked to a helper object - if I move the helper they all move, if I move the objects they move individually. For some reason the Group function is disabled for these objects. I'm trying to align two imported models - so I want to accurately align one set of objects against the other set.

So assuming you want some data encapsulated within the script file itself, that will use it. A Here Doc, or Array or Hash, would seem to be a much easier solution.

Yeah it was back before version 4 I think. It recorded the mouse position on the screen and mouse clicks. So if you re-positioned your SU window, the whole macro broke!

@dan rathbun said: So did "Run as Administrator" allow you to write files where you wanted, rather than the VirtualStore ?? Didn't try that - because my fileread was triggered by the drag and drop which was prevented. But it'd be worth testing. @dan rathbun said: And.. are you saying that file writing is even more of a P.I.T.B on Win8, than it was in previous versions ?? I don't know - I've always used an administrator account on Vista and Win7 with UAC disabled. I cannot compare because Win8 is the first Windows OS I've tried with default user access. I suspect it's the same as Win7 and Vista, but I need to verify this.

The object's 'position' is relatively easy to find - it's just the t=object.transformation.to_a for the xyx point as an array of the last few elements thus: point=[t[-4],t[-3],t[-2]]... OR transformation.origin ! The transformation's scale and rotation interact with each other, so they are much more complex to extract from the transformation array... but not impossible - there are already some earlier post discussing this...

Oh, that works as well... And I've been comparing each value by itself when putting it all in an array works just as easy...

Thomas, there is a free application called TinkerTool (http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html) . It allows for adjusting a couple of preference settings that are hidden. Among other things you can change Fonts and Font sizes. TinkerTool is also useful for exploring all of the osx directories without having to resort to the command line. All of the changes can be reversed with one click.
