      DWG Export with incorrect units

Thomthom, SU uses the correct units when exporting, but there is IMO a bug in the exporter, as the internal scale flags in the resulting DWG file all point to inches all the same, so unless you take care, AutoCad will import the file 25.4 times too large. I have resolved this by turning all import scaling off in AutoCad. It involves setting a small bunch of system variables, most of which can be accessed through the Units command. I never need AutoCad to scale my imports, so I have set all these to Unitless. Anssi

..and to think that when I posted this question originally I thought it was just me being silly and that I'd get an easy answer that's make me slap my head and say "duh!"...

I wonder if my problem started after I applied texture to the model. Because without textures the file was around 1-2MB. (I used lots of components.) And I've ensured that every component is clean and free of unneeded geometry. And so far I've only used one component that I didn't make myself and that was a tree from the SU download area. However, with the textures the model is now up to 14MB. I model without the textures visible, but maybe they are still causing trouble... Problem is that I can't just copy my model into a new file because I'm using V-Ray and all the materals will be lost if I do so...

The problem is that doesn't work well with my workflow. I'm using V-Ray for SU and when you import components it won't import the V-Ray materials. If I get time over the weekend I'll see if I can learn enough Ruby to make a script for this.

Can they add this feature to Sketchup 7 as a wishlist? @thomthom said: @mpowell1234567890 said: @thomthom said: Interesting. I've found that you don't even have to rename it. Since GIF and PNG file formats got different structures I got an idea; When you have the file dialogue window open, type in * in the filename textbox and hit the Enter key. Then all files will be listed and you can select and open your gif files. So it appears that GIF support already exists, it's just the file dialogue that lacks the listing for the file format. How do I do it? I tried but see no animation.. Am I doing it right? * filename.gif It only support static GIF images. No Animation. So it's actually a partial support of the GIF format.

I think the plan is to move all native SU rubies to the Tools folder and leave the Plugins folder free for 3rd party stuff. There are so many rubies now that the temptation is to simply copy the entire Plugins folder when you upgrade, rather than reinstall them all one at a time. When I tried this on the V6 Beta test, including sketchup.rb, langhandler.rb etc. it proved fairly disastrous.

Hamlet. This is an old thread. Dynamic Components are supposed to provide something like this. Look around for dynamic component windows. Personally I don't use them. I create new windows practically every project. I make the different sizes using Fredoscale stretching plugin and a few other tricks. Don't use AutoCAD, so can't speak to that.

Can't belive this thread is this old! Because I have just started to have this problem on textures shifting when double clicking on item. This happens on faceme items, specifically a tree I was editing to hide edges around leaves. This is a glitch that needs fixing.

Yet another great addon! I really like the Proximity script. Same kind of function I'm familiar with from 3DSMax. I love how SU can be extended so easily. Like Firefox, addons makes it such much more invaluable.

@jean lemire said: For a face, extrude to full heigth. Then, select one end face and Copy/Move it to the other end. Then, immediately type /X in the VCB where X is the number of intervals that you want between the faces. For example, typing 4 will yield 4 intervals and you will end up with the two end faces and three faces equaly spread in between. Just ideas. this works beautifully, jean. thanks.

Ok, I just realised something about the behaviour. When I rotate the viewport it centres around the object the cursor is over. If the cursor is not over any objects it uses the scene's 0 point. I'm still wondering if there's a way to lock the viewport rotation centre point. When I'm modelling objects with not allot of surface, such as a fence, it consumes more time to aim the cursor at a small piece of surface. I'd much rather be able to lock it so I can press down the middle mouse button anywhere on the screen to rotate around the object.
