As said... there are currently no access to SKMs in the API [only materials and textures], but my SKMtools do add extra methods to allow you to import a SKM file as anew material, export a material as a SKM file, and do several other things - like extract a SKM's image and thumbnail etc... Search the Plugins Index and get it...

UU3D is a good app and is a pretty good price. It has tons of features and works well with the UVTools plugin. Take the time to learn it and you won't regret it.

There is a BMVB "Bring My View Back" (what an awkward name! ) It draws a frame covering current view and a line from camera position perpendicular to the frame. It doesn't support 2p perspective camera shift - zoom. http://tomaszmarek.eu/sketchup/bring-my-view-back/

@fabcn said: Great tool, thanx TT! One question though: is there a way to automatically create quad faces on non-quadface planar surface (you seem to do it manually from 1:32 to 1:50). Two classical examples are: extruded plywood chair (such as in your example), or follow me road. I would like to avoid draw lines to make quad faces on the road surface or chair border. Is it possible? It could be very long process, and your tool seem to do great complicated things (likely to 3DSMax), and this simple thing seems not to exist... Maybe not that easy to program though!! Have a look at TIGs Split Tools: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43376 (Note this is actually 4 small scripts that need installing to make them work.)

You can't prevent an object from being erased. You might be able to recreate it, if you manage to get any info on the erased entity (which is usually garbage by the time the oberser reports it), but you will very likely end up interfering with some other operation. Safer and easier might be to create a custom Erase Guides function that will omit your protected guides. It would be a useful tool, as I've also experience your frustration many time myself. You could use attributes on each entity, or you can use attributes on a layer. Both options would be useful.

@chedda said: Select your layer or create a new one then paste it in from another window Well, I was hoping that it can be done somehow automatically. I'll group the component's content and put it on a layer. It's about LOTS of components... and is very time consuming to manually select/create, and so on... And there is the risk to lost consistency. All models must have same layer structure. Thanks all for clearing this out to me !

@liam887 said: You have done well with the seat but I feel the legs let it down. its not the mechanism as I appreciate that, but the clean white of the seat makes the legs look 'odd and out of place'? Oh, you just killed it The white of the seat is because there is no texture (i wasn't so interested in that). The "catch" should be the legs . I started from the idea that they shouldn't be symmetrical, but as strange as possible (but to offer stability). Maybe just not my brightest idea - i have my excuse: it was late night.

Thanks Pilou. Who would be more qualified than you ? You just LOVE Colors ! I was always been amazed by your colorful works. Indeed, after that graphic, the ratio would be this: R: 1.00 G: 1.25 B: 0.75

' **Weld**' has nothing to do with ' Group'. In Sketchup there are Edges [aka 'lines'] - sometimes these are made 'bound' into 'Curves' - typically 'Arcs', or a fully looped 'Arc' which is then called a 'Circle'. However, any collection of Edges bound end-to-end can become a 'Curve'. A Curve is identified by the way it extrudes with PushPull into a form with 'smoothed' arises. There are some specific scripts to make special 'Curves' like Beziers... A long time ago Rick Wilson made a tool that takes a collection of such Edges and makes a Curve out of them [if it can]. It is called **weld.rb**. It is installed as a script that you put into the Plugins folder. On restart you get the tool 'Weld' that will make preselected Edges into a Curve... Many tools require Curves to be selected for them to work - if these are not 'out-of-the-box' Arcs then you need to ' weld' them - e.g. Chris Fullmer's 'ShapeBender' or many of my 'EEby...' tools... Oh, yeah... and weld.rb is freely available from http://www.Smustard.com [use Find > weld] ... An indispensable tool for any serious Sketchupper...

I am having the same problem. It is driving me crazy. I want to rename a unique component, don't even get to write anything, just click on the Definition Name field and it pops the dreadded message. I also discovered that it pops up only the first time you hit the Definition Name field. If you deselect and reselect the same component, go to Def.Name field, it will not show the warning.

I wrote this a while ago - it exports a selection to any available format http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=183756#p183756 So in your case it'd be export_selection('dxf') Of course you need the appropriate exporter - so for DXF you need v8Pro on one of the earlier versions that came with it in Free...
