This is one of the rare reasons why you can change the active layer.

@kaas said: Daily backup-ing to an external disk is a must (when doing projects commercially). Having to re-do everything and/or explain to a client the project will have a big delay is a nightmare scenario. Edit: TIG's archiver is also nice for creating backups I agree... was my exact thought after this event. Still, this does not excuse the poor programming behind SketchUp's Save feature. A SAVED file on the disk should NOT be touched before the new saved copy is CONFIRMED to be viable. Overwriting files on-the-fly is a recipe for disaster.

If you get them directly in SketchUp, they will open with the version you are using as long as it is 2014 or higher. If you are downloading them directly through your browser, you'll have to choose the version you want. [image: 6Bpt_Screenshot-1_8_20184_26_18AM.png]

Did you try Blender to import it? 1GB is a big ask for any app. But Blender might be able to better segment it to export more manageable chunks. Is the 1GB purely mesh data or mesh and texture data?

If you are doing some gaming then GTX. For normal CAD (AutoCAD) and SU you will see no difference in a Quadro card, especially for the price difference. Here is an older test back in '13 with Quadros, GTX and AMD cards. I hate that they did not test SU with the cards but for normal CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, Max) I can see no reason to spend the extra $$ on a Quadro. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-workstation-graphics-card,3493.html

Sorry, I was under the impression Sketchup would also triangulate on import because I thought I did it once, but I used blender first, triangulated and then exported to obj again (but could be dae or 3ds) and then into sketchup. It's not that hard. There is another free OBJ importer that is from quad tools. It becomes available directly on sketchup file>import options and it never failed for me, but I used it only seldomly.

If you are really serious about running another copy or another version of SU, without it interfering with the registry then you should consider virtualization a version of your SU software. https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/downloads Example: I'm currently using SU 2015 as my main workhorse for daily work. Having found out that SU 2016 wont run many of my Ruby scripts. I created a virtual copy of SU 2016, also known as a Portable version, using vmware. Warning: this process should not be attempted without a good understanding of Windows and what virtualization is. Here is a short description of how I make a portable copy. I always have a fresh bootable install of Windoz only, on a new UBS3 HDD I install vmware and SketchUp on 1 3, With vmware running I make a new Bootable copy of SketchUp Now I can run a portable version of SketchUp from my USB3 HDD or move that Portable to any other HDD If you are competent in using vmware you can make versions that allow you to add addons scripts to your portable version, this is very important. good luck!

I use a mixture of Visual Studio Code/Sublime Text and RubyMine. I use VSCode/Sublime etc for quick scripts and edits. But for larger projects I use RubyMine as the IDE provide better code insight. It's Ruby debugger tools is also very nice - saving you from "puts debugging". We just uploaded some guide to setting up RubyMine: https://github.com/SketchUp/sketchup-ruby-api-tutorials/wiki/RubyMine%20Overview

thank you very much for the explanation. This means that any type of classification can be assigned to components, even custom made ones, for other purposes that are out of the building standards, if I want to use those classifications to make some reports using the built-in report tool that is in SU PRO?

Thanks Rich. Will the browser eventually have subd mode (showing the subd basic divisions)? I thought you posted that before. BTW I notice the viewer does not give access to controls once it is full screen or is that just my setup?
